Kids enjoyed it. When Booker reads to his class, they commented, "I couldn't believe slaves were not allowed to read." Realistic, kids couldn't believe how the children had to work. "Black people were treated badly, both as slaves and when freed."
Well acted and produced; a realistic depiction of the institution of slavery and its dehumanizing process. Values education as a precious commodity. Shows how through education one achieves true freedom. Also shows not all white people were evil.
Set in the 1860s south, Booker is the impassioned story of the boy who struggled through slavery to found the Tuskegee Institute. Through the eyes of nine-year-old Booker T. Washington. Stars LeVar Burton, Shelly Duvall, Judge Reinhold.
