Educational and enjoyable. "It made me want to find out more about black sharecroppers." Not all kids were aware of discrimination, and some were taken aback by what they saw. "It was sad, but I learned a lot."
Accurately represents the original book. Has great learning potential and is very respectful of children. Shows that dignity is possible even under oppression. This is a difficult subject that is handled extremely well.
An Academy Award-nominated story about a sharecropper during the Depression. Paul Winfield plays the desperate father who steals for his family. Cicely Tyson plays his wife, Ken Hooks his oldest son. They love, laugh, struggle and endure.
