Kids clapped when the dog returned. Lots of things going on make this story a little complicated to follow. Led to discussion of literature-related themes and realism of the adventure, and to "practice what you are." Some kids thought it was slow.

Appealing animal story, visually driven. Good family interaction and respect for nature, with examples of survival skills. Depicts the outdoors as both gentle and rugged. Children are never underestimated. Contains some strong language.
