Young children did not understand the story. Children watched part of the program and were not interested in seeing it again. The witches scared them and some had bad dreams afterwards. Led to discussion of different values from that time period.

Very slow-paced. Footage of Shirley has great nostalgic appeal. The story is sometimes complex and gender stereotypes are rampant. The story emphasizes respect for differences. Contains aggressive language, name-calling and parents slapping kids.
