Compelling and complex. Our young jurors that watched this were glued to the screen throughout and asked to watch it again the following day. The kids enjoyed the animation, though they found some scenes a bit scary, especially for the younger viewers - ages 5 through 7.
Most were unfamiliar with the traditional story and asked a lot of questions about it. The older children were fascinated and talked about it later.
Based on the classic King Arthur tale, scripted by Jane Yolen. This explores the take of Merlin the magician as a young boy. When he is disturbed by dreams of dragons fighting, Merlin discovers his own strength and helps change British history forever.
This wonderful slant on the classic story of King Arthur and his mentor, the incredible magician Merlin is perfect for young tweens and teens with excellent role models for self-esteem, courage and trustworthiness.
The animation is top notch. I give "Merlin and the Dragons" 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 5 to 12, and older. Reviewed by Julie S., KIDS FIRST!
