Very impressive film, for a college student, or anyone. Tackles a big issue - fat kids.

The storyline follows a young boy, Tom, who thinks he doesn't have friends because he's fat. When a group of bullies come to visit him while his parents are away, they take advantage of him and help themselves to whatever they want, including the pool, which supposedly was off limits. Tom ends up winning a race with one of the kids and when they try to capitalize on it by stripping him, he turns the tables and kicks them out of his house. Only, one kid stays behind and, the next thing we know, they seem to have a budding friendship.

Very well written, cast, filmed and edited. This is a tricky situation that could have gone any way. I like how the filmmaker handled the situation and gave the fat kid the upper hand in the end. Obesity is a subject that most people shy away from, but it is front and center here, with all its issues - insecurity, food addiction, etc. Very thoughtful and worthy conversation started.

The film's message is about standing up for yourself, even when faced with bullies.

I give Fatman 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 19. By Julie S., KIDS FIRST!

Tom thinks he doesn't have any friends because he's fat. When a group of bullies take over his house, he has to choose between the dream of friendship and his self-respect.
