This film has a lot of surprises to it, starting from the get go, through to the end. It is thought provoking and offers a good topic for discussion.

Kang, a high school student, lives a life full of study, under silent pressure from expectations around him. Then, Kang becomes tired of such a monotonous life, misses school for the first time without any plans, and by chance he meets Jun, a child who ran away from home. This high school student made film is from Korea and gives us insight into another culture, especially from the point of view of how expectations are put upon a young high school student. It's well shot with good camerawork and audio. The locations are well chosen. What's really interesting to me is how Jun, the young kid he meets quite by accident, is so much younger than Kang, but he is the one showing Kang how to experience life "outside the box." Jun has skipped kindergarten for the day (something he does frequently) and it's just by happenstance that Kang runs into him. It's sort of a game changer for Kang as he starts to look at life differently.

The film's message is that sometimes we need to be jolted out of our stoic existence. I give The Field Trip 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18, plus adults. By Julie S., KIDS FIRST!
