Ernest Hemmingway's ghost (Jack Bulger) decides to haunt an old fisherman. However, he soon realizes that the fisherman is already being haunted by Herman Melville's ghost (Eddie Nason).
The storyline is creative. The writing is witty with great comedic timing. The audio quality, cinematography and video quality are all outstanding. Kudos to writer/director Mark Keifer. The pacing is great, and fulfills the full potential of the storyline. The cinematography is outstanding with great angles, wide shots and close ups - and locations. The film makes the audience feel as if they are with the characters instead of watching a movie. The costumes are great; they are simple but give insight to the time era that each character comes from. The sets help enhance the background for each character and where they come from. The locations fit the story taking place in the home of a fisherman. I love how they very cleverly incorporated stock photos of various places to create backgrounds for various scenes. The background music is simple and effective. I love the accordion music at the beginning and the bagpipes at the end. It supports the era and fills in the quiet moments. The characters are hilarious. Each one provides adds something to the story like wisdom and funny one-liners. The chemistry between the actors is great and they complement each other well. The directing is terrific. The story is simple, but accomplishes the goal of telling a wacky and fun story. Each character brings his or her own touch to the film. My favorite part is the attic scene between the fisherman and the ghost. They're funny together and it's enjoyable to watch. And, the reaction of Sallie (Victoria Cyr) is great. She's a non-nonsense kind of woman.
The film's message is about enjoying every moment of life. The fisherman has two ghosts haunting him and he just moves on with his life and enjoys every moment of it.
I give Fish Tale 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18, plus adults. By Heather S. and Julie S., KIDS FIRST!
