What a terrific short film, filled with emotions without any dialogue.

The story follows a kid who finds a ball in the park. Another kid seems to really want it and a chase ensues, picking up yet a third person, a girl.

This student made film portrays a not uncommon story, of two kids fighting over possession of a found ball in the park. The camerawork is terrific, even when the kids are running it's in focus and gives us clear images. The characters are all super believable, typical city kids; the locations are well selected --it's easily identified as taking place on the streets and shops of New York City. The background music is exceptionally well suited to the film. It starts out with cool jazz background music. Then, the music when the kids are running is more percussive, until the confrontation comes and the younger boy gets the ball. Quiet music takes over; we see a name on the ball; we're not sure the meaning but it feels personal and it brings the three kids together in an embrace, ultimately sharing ice creams.

The message of this film is you never know whose ball that is that comes out of nowhere. Every ball has an owner and it might mean something special to them.

I give Redd 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 5 to 12, plus adults. By Julie S., KIDS FIRST!
