What a darling short animated film. I love the colors and the characters. The sea lion is huggable.
The story follows a young, hungry sea lion on a quest for food. She runs into some road blocks, but finally finds the perfect place and an endless supply of food.
First of all, I love the look of this student production. The colors are very serene, with a soft pallet that is pleasing to the eye. The sea lion is just adorable; one can't help but fall in love with her. The storyline is simple, yet meaningful and shows us how you have to keep looking to find your "people." I love how the sea lion's talent for spinning food over her head wins her the affection of the pizza maker. He sees her as a gift and puts her talent to good use, the result of which serves them both well. I love the spinning food and how the filmmaker relayed the story of her own childhood where her father did the same thing. Filmmaking is such a combination of personal experiences and creativity and Carly Dessain puts them to good use here.
The message of this film is about finding "your people" and "your place" in life. If at first you don't find them, keep on searching.
I give Lusea 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 5-12, plus adults. It will make a lovely addition to any KIDS FIRST! Film Festival. By Julie S., KIDS FIRST!

Lusea is a hungry young sea lion on an eager quest for food. On the way, she tries to impress, but runs into unexpected hostility. Eventually she finds her place elsewhere.
