This film is about a kid named Abdullah who lives with his dad in China, but his mom lives in Pakistan and he is trying to find a way to return there. The film is from China with dialogue in Mandarin and subtitled in English.
This is an interesting story with many different points to ponder on. Though it is kind of hard to follow at times, it leaves you hanging at the end. The camera work is very good. There are a lot of different locations, such as in a house and on a street lined with shops. Though I couldn't read any of the shop names it looked like an interesting street. Abdullah (Amir M. Ismail) is the only character we got to know and he doesn't seem to grow throughout the story. My favorite part is when they are making money at the wishing house.
The message of the film is that sometimes things don't go the way you expect, so you have to find a new way. It does show kids doing risky things that kids might imitate. This is a spoiler but at the end the kid stows away in a truck.
It was when they were making the money at the wishing house.
I give Abdullah 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18, plus adults. Reviewed by Avalon N., KIDS FIRST!
