The storyline is about Laura (Julia Lopes), who realizes after her favorite TV host, Harry Roselmack, disappears, and that African American people have to work two times as hard as other people. If she makes one mistake Laura will disappear just like Harry Roselmack.
the storyline portrays the message that black people sometimes have to work harder in certain places. Race, for other people may not get in the way of their education, lifestyle and other things. The word disappear is used in the film; it is a word that can be very strong for many people, especially African Americans. The camera work is good, using many different angles. The sets and locations suit the story; I like how there are many different sets and locations. My favorite is Laura's room because it is very detailed and represents Laura's personality. I don't like the music in the beginning; it doesn't go with Harry's job, nor the job setting. Otherwise the music is fine. Julia Lopes portrays Laura with lots of passion and curiosity. The growth between when we first see Laura and when we last see her is strong and powerful. She learns to understand her questioning which makes her seem more confident. I like the different scenes throughout the film. They are simple, but still tell the story in many ways. My favorite scene is when the janitor at Laura's school says hi to Laura and her friend, which is different from her earlier behavior.
The message is that African Americans have many things going on in their lives that many other people might not get or know. Race is a big part of black peoples' lives. It made me want to learn about the different struggles people of color have.
I give Flawless 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 11 to 18, plus adults. Reviewed by Makena P., KIDS FIRST!
