The story is about the relationship between a mother and daughter that becomes worse when one of them is late on paying the rent.
This has nice camera work with good camera angle choices and good audio recording. The background music works. The acting is spot on, actually two female actors are terrific. You can easily believe they are related to one another. The heartless landlord also comes across quite believably. The story of this film is not an unfamiliar one, that of a difficult mother / child relationship. You feel the pain of the conflict between them and, as the mom tidies up the house, she comes across photos and clothes that remind her how precious her daughter is to her. Attitudes change when the mom learns that the reason her daughter hasn't given her the rent money is that she loaned it to some neighbor that were having even a more difficult time. I was glad to see a happy ending, because this could have gone the other direction.
I give Roommates 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 13 to 18, plus adults. Reviewed by Julie S., KIDS FIRST! Juror
