17 Seconds is a phenomenal debut documentary feature from Alon Marom. They film follows the lives of four young athletes fully committed to succeeding in their sport. Their pursuit towards absolute victory and a promising future influences every aspect of their lives. It is extremely well-made, filmed in Israel with dialogue in Hebrew and English sub-titles. Each of the athlete's stories flows quiet well and together they weave a revealing story that feels very authentic. Sometimes the camera work leaves something to be desired, but taking into consideration that it is the director's first feature, one can deal with that. Masterfully directed, we get up close and personal with everyone of the subjects. Sometimes we are just watching this activity from the sidelines, at other times we are put inside the headspace of the athletes. You should know that there is a bit of language (including multiple "F" word), but it is an excellent film which I believe teens will really enjoy and relate to the key characters. I recommend 17 Seconds for ages 12 to 18, due to the strong language, and give it 4 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it for the KIDS FIRST! Film Festivals. Reviewed by Benjamin P., KIDS FIRST!
