From the Congo comes, The Little Fish and the Butterfly, a visual roller coaster that tells a fable by interesting, unique means with good direction and cinematography. The storyline follows a little fish and a butterfly that live in the same body of water. They get along just fine and one night, they eat together. Then, they fall asleep and the fish wakes up in horror the next morning. The fish finds out that the crocodile ate all his eggs and discovers the unfortunate fact that nature has its own laws, even when they are cruel. This story is told through the reenactment of the tale and the final lesson is that stories like this need to be passed down through generations to live on and continue to be told. It is a live action piece with colorful characters in beautiful costumes. The locations are so well shot, with excellent camera angles and beautiful close-us. The director uses fabulously interesting visuals to tell the story. It flows well and is very watchable. Seeing the fish eggs being eaten is a bit dark, but it is not too dark for the target age group and, it portrays the honesty of nature. I give this short film an age rating of 4 to 18 and 4.5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it for inclusion in the film festival. Reviewed by Benjamin P. and Julie S., KIDS FIRST!
