Prime Suspect Tennison. This PBS Masterpiece production is a prequel to the popular series Prime Suspect (1991-2006) starring Helen Mirren as Detective Jane Tennison. Prime Suspect Tennison turns the clock back to give viewers a look at Tennison's start in the British police force over the course of six 90-minute episodes. Set in early 1970's London. the usual attention to period detail of Masterpiece productions imbues this mini-series with a counter-cultural feel thanks to the fashion and music of that colorful era. Stefanie Martini steps into the role of a younger Helen Mirren with suitable precision and confidence, nicely displaying a touch of ready-impatience and a budding keen intellect, making for a convincing young Tennison/Mirren. The short series should prove entertaining to general audiences but most appealing to fans of the original series. Production is excellent and the DVD set includes several short videos focusing on the fashion, hair, and cars of 70's London as well as policing at the time and a short about the original show.
