Gotta love the homage to silent films and this short delivers its message just as clearly as it might had it contained dialogue. As a silent film fan, I am slightly biased. Nevertheless, the production values are quite good, the piano accompaniment classic and the acting by these young students quite admirable. Yup, it's a yes from me. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 14. Adults will most likely get a chuckle to of it as well. Reviewed by Julie S., KIDS FIRST! Juror
In this short homage to the days of silent film, "The Bench" tells the story of young love in a familiar triangle of rich versus poor.
Director's statement: "The Bench" began as a workshop for my young actors to challenge them to tell a story without speaking. We decided to follow it through as a finished film with the goal of expressing not just the "look" of the late 1920s but also the naive sensibilities of the period. Please note that the four principal cast members were between 10 and 12 years old at the time of filming.
