Dino Dan: The Wonderful Wizard of Dinoz is a short film about Trek Henderson having a vivid dream that seems familiar to the story The Wizard of Oz except, of course, there are dinosaurs in it. Trek, a junior dinosaur expert just loves dinosaurs and everything in his life is comprised of the prehistoric creatures. His room is filled with dinosaur inspired posters, clothing, bedding and toys. So, it probably made sense for him to dream about them after his mom read him a bedtime story in preparation for his big trip to the Dino Museum the next day. There are three additional tales included on this DVD that are about a school musical about dinosaurs and overcoming stage fright, having night vision to seek out a veggie thieving dinosaur and a great battle between two of the largest known dinosaurs.
The greatest feature of this DVD is the education you get in learning all about the different types of dinosaurs there are. It's not only about the T-Rex and Triceratops. There are over 600 species such as the Troodon and Albertosaurus. The bright colors are visually appealing. They enhance the story and help viewers in learning about these amazing creatures.
My favorite character is Trek. His knowledge and passion for dinosaurs is very inspiring. My favorite part is when Trek arrives at the Land Of Dinoz and his new friends, the Scare-Troodon (Penelope), the Tin-Dromaeosaurus (Bobby) and the Cowardly Stygimoloch (Hannah) realize they each have the power of courage, wisdom and caring within them, just like Dorothy and her friends did in the Wizard of Oz.
I give this film 5 out of 5 stars because it is family friendly, informative, humorous and a great mix of live action and CGI animation. You also get a bonus of three other mini stories packed in the adventurous 60 minutes. I recommend this DVD for children ages 4 to 7 since this is usually the age the fascination for dinosaurs occurs and they will want to learn more. This film is available on DVD now, so make sure to go check it out.
