On May 10, 1996, a group of climbers are trying to accomplish climbing to the highest point in the entire world, Mount Everest. After arriving in Nepal, the climbers advance to the base camp where they have to let their bodies acclimate to the high altitude for a whole month before they attempt to climb to the top. This is a very emotional movie because they have to leave their families and face the reality of possibly dying. Rob Hall (Jason Clarke) is the tour guide responsible for the expedition and the lives of everyone participating. His loving and very pregnant wife, Jan Arnold (Kiera Knightley), is due upon his return. The climbers face their worst fears - blinding storms, inadequate equipment and a lack of oxygen. Now the climbers have to face the impossible and try to survive on the vicious mountain.
My favorite scene is when the climbers start their journey because it is a very memorable part in this film. I could tell that the climbers were so excited and maybe a bit anxious to face their wildest dreams. They felt like they can achieve anything and that anything is possible.
My favorite character is Jan Arnold because Kiera Knightley puts so much emotion into her character and she left me in tears by the end of the movie. She does a stellar job in her role.
The message of this story is that you have to follow your dreams, no matter what the consequences because, if you never try, you will always be left to wonder. Anything is possible. In this film, the climbers really pursued their dreams of trying to successfully climb Everest and take on the largest mountain on Earth. This movie inspired me to follow my dreams, no matter how big or small.
The target audience for this outstanding movie is anyone who enjoys drama thrillers. I recommend Everest for ages 13 to 18 because of its intensity and mildly graphic scenes. I give this film 5 out of 5 stars.
Will the climbers conquer Mount Everest? Watch this film to figure out if the climbers survive. It opens in theaters September 25.
