This DVD includes four episodes:
1. Octopus Wildkratticus- Saving a special octopus.
2. Tortuga Tune Up- How some sea turtles defend themselves.
3. Speaking Dolphinese- Learning about the dolphin language.
4. Stuck on Sharks-Learning about the great white shark
The main characters of Shark-Tastic are the Kratt brothers. Aviva is the leader and engineer, Koki the computer expert and Jimmy Z the operator. Kids will enjoy Jimmy Z. He is the funniest one on the show. This show sure to get young kids excited about these sea creatures. The DVD contains episodes that have already aired on PBS Kids so, they are not anything new. The episodes all have the same theme: How to defend yourself from getting eaten by sharks. Even though the title is "Shark-Tastic," the show is not all about sharks. Sharks are included in all episodes though. Each episode starts with the Kratt brother visiting a place where the sea creature the talk about lives. The dolphin episode is one of my favorites as I am a huge fan of dolphins.
The Kratt brothers are great communicating with each other. I like when Aviva builds a dolphin decoder. In each of the episodes, Aviva makes a Creature Power Suit that is like the animal being talked about in that episode. In real life, scientists are trying to find ways to communicate with dolphins.
The animation for this show is 2D with bright colors. You also see the actual sea creatures in their natural bright colors. That is was makes this DVD and the other Wild Kratts episodes more fun. You can really get into them.
I recommend Wild Kratts Shark-Tastic DVD for ages 4 to 8. This is definitely for kids who love animals or want to learn about them. The Kratts brothers and their friends explain the sea creatures in an easy way. This DVD is a good way to begin learning about them. I think older kids will want to learn more. I give this DVD 4 out of 5 stars. It also comes with DVD Rom which has printable PDF's with activities and a link to PBS kids. This DVD is available now wherever DVDs are sold.
