Rock of Ages is the best musical I've ever seen. It is pure entertainment all the way through the movie. I know all the songs, not because I grew up in that time period, but because I love 80s Rock. The music is outstanding and the voices of the stars are fantastic when it came to the amazing voices that needed to be performed. I went in to this movie fearing that they would twist the songs around too much and set up new arrangements. Luckily, that was not the case. I think people want to see this film not to only have a great time, but to relive their youth. The film does a fantastic job keeping the authenticity of the year 1987. This movie is mostly about a small town girl and a city boy meeting on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood and then attempt to pursue their dreams. The casting for this movie is phenomenal. I couldn't have picked a better cast. Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx, Julianne Hough as Sheri, and a new young actor named Diego Boneta who plays Drew. The romance in this movie was definitely a strong one and the chemistry between the two actors was incredibly believable. I love how the movie covers all elements of the music industry at the time. You have your slimy manager, the critic, the rock star himself, and all the controversy. This was a very fun movie to watch. However, being the year of 1987 there was much controversy surrounding the teens of this time. The film is chock full of sex, drugs, alcohol, profanity, nudity, religion controversy and other negative elements. This may ruin the movie for some people, but it all boils down to the authenticity of the life style of rock stars, because that's how it was. I do not recommend this movie for anyone under the age of 15 unless you are mature enough to handle all the prolific content this movie offers. I was surprised at the PG-13 rating because I would never take a 13 year old to see this movie. There is an F-word in this film a long with a provocative sexual romance and much more. There are many great supporting familiar faces as well. Mary J. Blige, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, and Alec Baldwin shouldn't go unnoticed for their brilliant performances. I will add that if you were not around during this time period, or if you don't know anything about 80s rock music, than the majority of the jokes during the movie will go above your head. This is the definition of a feel-good movie. Stacee Jaxx is by far my favorite character of the film. Stacee Jaxx is the ultimate rock star to me. They took certain elements of all the rock bands of this time and incorporated it in to one character to make him. While it includes a lot of adult humor, I absolutely loved this movie, 5 out of 5 stars. Who knew Tom Cruise has a four-octave range while singing? Incredible. Blake Hawes, age 15, KIDS FIRST!
