"I like the trucks and how they build stuff without any hands." The kids relayed stories and recalled details in each. "My favorite part is when they fall down, and then were upside down, and were racing upside down, and then the dump truck won." Kids laugh out loud, even slapped their knees. The stories are fun and keep their attention easily. They watched it over and over again. "I want to watch it again! I want to see the trucks again!" "The trucks are nice to each other, they say sorry and take turns." Kids like the music. They used the stories in their playtime, all interested in playing with trucks and racing them. One group of four 3-year-olds, who rarely sit still, stayed attentive throughout. They were engaged and excited, and conversations were sparked about the stories in the show.
Boy-friendly, uncomplicated and fun. Focuses around truck friends and their love of racing, but interjects simple life lessons about being a good friend and helping others. For instance, in Race to the Race, Chuck makes the decision to stay and help a friend out, risking missing his brother's race. These stories are easy to follow and will appeal to young boys especially. The characters model honesty and responsibility. In Need For Speed, the friends test different hypotheses regarding how to get their toy truck to go faster. This introduces the scientific method in a fun and concrete way, easily translated into a project that kids and parents can work on together. Overall the series if fun and though boy-centric, it can be enjoyed by girls as well. The characters are likable and the animation and sound are very enjoyable. The trucks are mindful of one another and embody the concept of teamwork, while they work through various tasks. Young children will love to watch these trucks as they maneuver through different situations.
