This story draws you in from the start. There are a few confusing moments, but they are always resolved. It's got a certain creepiness (hungry ghosts, wailing woman in the underground) without really being scary. Puts an innocent young girl's face on the afterlife. An amazing trip, like being on a fast moving train through history. We get a behind-the-scene's view of a few historical moments, from 1924 to Present day in Portland, OR, and realize that time moves forward no matter how bad things get. It teaches us to accept and forgive ourselves, and only then will we find inner-peace.
With a new life in the Afterlife, eight-year-old Jing Jing forms friends of diverse origins, finds her path through the notorious Portland Underground and her wise spirit leads the way home.
