Beautiful anthropological short that offers a lovely glimpse into the life of a young girl in Vietnam. We see that although our lives are very different, there are certain things that bring us all together, like laughter. The piglet is adorable and you are driven to care about this young girl and what she will do next. Wonderful cinematography that shows beautiful scenery of the Vietnam countryside and its inhabitants. Kids will enjoy the girl and the antics of the piglet, but will also get a small lesson in culture along the way.
What Makes Me Happy is a series of short films that show disadvantaged children around the world and captures their positive spirit and resilience. In Tung's film, Vietnam, time for school study in the mountains of North Vietnam is at a premium due to daily work requirements. Tung has the additional problem of a piglet that is determined to escape his sty and gives more than his fair share to the chase. Even when she finds some time to herself, whilst collecting firewood high in the mountains, the magic of the area becomes a distraction resulting in an evening journey home that proves to hold more challenges than normal.
