TWENTIETH CENTURY FOX FILM CORPORATION
X-Men: First Class is the thrilling prequel to the X-Men saga of movies based on the Marvel comic series in which Erik Lehnsherr (the future Magneto, played by Michael Fassbender) and Charles Xavier (the future Professor X, played by James McAvoy) team up to gather a small gang of mutants to take down Sebastian Shaw, (Kevin Bacon) the evil doctor/mutant that killed Erik's mother and save the world from a nuclear Armageddon. Now, take that and put it on top of the setting, in which the story takes place at the dawn of the space age (1960s) during the cold war. I thought this was the best of the X-men movies because it contains all of your previous X-Men favorites such as Mystique/Raven (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Holt) and Emma Frost (January Jones.) It provides answers to mysterious questions, such as how Cerebro was invented to locate mutants and how Professor X ended up in a wheelchair. Also, I thought the movie was good because the acting was extremely well played, especially by James McAvoy as the optimistic Charles Xavier and Kevin Bacon as the evil mastermind Sebastian Shaw. The special effects are amazing, especially how the mutants change their form. The movie is also very funny. I loved the cameo of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in one quick (but profane!) scene. It's rated PG-13 because of the intense action sequences, scantily clad women and some bad language. If you're looking for a good movie for ages 13 and up, go see this for exciting, edge-of-your-seat entertainment. Reviewed by Daniel Menegas, age 13
Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-MEN. Starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence and January Jones.
