James and the Giant Peach is a brilliant, creative movie for the whole family. This film has been one of my favorites since I was very young. I think one of the reasons I am so deeply fascinated with this movie is that it is extremely artistic. Like in the first couple of scenes when James is at his horrid aunt's house, the backgrounds and sets are so creative because they look like theater and stage props and it is interesting to see all the different mediums used in the visuals. My favorite character is the lovely Miss Spider, because she has so much compassion towards James even before he discovers the magic peach. I don't have a favorite scene because I am so in love with the entire film. This movie is for all ages because like I said before, it has been one of my favorites since I was very little. Over all I give James and the Giant Peach five stars!! James and the Giant Peach is one of many classic family films offered by HDNet Movies at KidScene, on morning and Friday nights. Beautiful production that morphs live action characters into animated ones. It has a surreal feeling to it that transcends reality. Some scenes are quite Intense and not suitable for younger kids as they are a bit too frightening. Some nightmarish imagery, extremely cruel adults and violent fights between insects.
Henry Selick adapts his distinct stop-motion style to Roald Dahl's classic children's book. A neglected child is shown a magical world by a strange bug that lives inside a giant peach.
