I thought "Gulliver's Travels" was a really fun movie. I know that it's not in keeping with the real story line of the book, but it's still a lot of fun. There are some parts where it's really funny, and some parts where it's a little bit crude, so I wouldn't recommend this for all age groups, depending on what you're comfortable letting your kids see.
Jack Black has this exuberance to him. He's the life of the party, and he turns Lilliput, the island with the very small people, into a circus, and he's the ring leader. The special effects were really great because it really looked like he was huge in Lilliput, and tiny on the island with the giants.
My family and I really enjoyed it. We laughed and laughed, and I think your family will enjoy it, too.

A wonderful twist on the classic story featuring Jack Black as Gulliver. Imagine Jack taking on the role of the gigantic Gulliver on the fantasy island of Lilliput, where he puffs up to look "big" in the eyes of the Lilliputians - not in size (which is already is) but in personality. They buy into it, he revels, and all is well until his ruse is uncovered and he is quickly demoted and disgraced. In the end, Jack saves the day, and the Lilliputians and the whole film ends with a dance scene that will make even the most astute person break into laughter. One thing I love about this film is how "safe" it is, even for our youngest viewers. There really are no scary elements. It is pure silliness in the best way. Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda, School of Rock) is larger than life in this epic comedy-adventure based on the classic tale. When a shipwreck lands a lowly mailroom clerk named Gulliver (Black) on the fantastical island of Lilliput, he transforms into a giant -- in size and ego. Gulliver's tall tales and heroic deeds win the hearts of the tiny Lilliputians, but when he loses it all and puts his newfound friends in peril, Gulliver must find a way to undo the damage. Through it all, Gulliver may just learn that it's how big you are on the inside that counts.
