BEYOND GREEN: PAPER GARDENS cover image
Youth-produced short documentary about how youth activists took on a problem in their community and did something about it - planting trees in their school yard instead of garages which the developers had planned. Arthur's grandfather is an ecologist and it is his inspiration that motivates him. We see him creating paper models for what he wants the property look like, "a shivering tree of life." Hauntingly beautiful music.
The outskirts of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, are bleak. 12-year-old Arthur has witnessed the elimination of almost all of the trees for firewood during an energy crisis. Now developers have decided to build a garage on his deserted and dusty school playground where only one semi-withered tree survives. Determined to save the tree and build a real garden, Arthur enlists the help of his ecologist grandfather, school mates and teachers.
