WILD ANIMAL BABY EXPLORERS: POCKET PROTECTORS & OTHER STORIES cover image
Very enjoyable. One six-year-old said "It has a lot of interesting information." Kids acted like dolphins and pretended to dive and jump in the air. Though younger kids liked the animation and music, they seemed to lose interest once the "journey" had begun. However, older kids gained interest at this point and enjoyed learning about animals they had studied at school. Though sections appeal to both age groups, no one age group was engaged throughout. All of the kids who stayed engaged wanted to know more, especially about the dolphins!
Very enjoyable modern animation style, with chirpy characters, exciting destinations and a mix of live-action and animated footage. Some found it "too chirpy" for adult ears. The characters are appealing, though the dialogue seems a bit forced at times. Promotes scientific inquiry, looking into specific questions about animals, such as "Why do marsupials have pockets," and "Why beaks and bills are shaped as they are." Both the live-action and animated sequences are exciting to watch. Creates a bridge between the fantasy world of animals that talk and have feelings, with real live animals. Encourages teamwork. The cute characters appeal to younger kids and the "information-dense" sections to older. Great for family viewing.
