This story appeals to both children and adults, with an engaging pace and a nicely woven presentation of many difficult and realistic issues. The main characters are competent and complex, modeling positive behaviors such as working hard, taking risks and collaborating. There is a light-hearted mix of "magic" and unexpected serendipity in the resolution of the drama. The interesting portrayal of the process of fashion and design, creates a framework for the story, while educating and inspiring. Feel-good ending. Depicts realistic people and interactions in challenging circumstances. The clever "twist" of fantasy at the end only makes it even more fun and entertaining.
Two pairs of sisters, two adults and two younger pre-teen girls, become involved in a design and fashion competition that will take them from Detroit to New York City where they encounter personal challenges and test to their relationships.
