Very informative and easy to watch. Explores China, Japan, India and the Americas from 500-1500 AD and explains the living conditions and developments that came out of that time and how it has influenced our lives today. Much of the information is new and very compelling. We love it! Confucius acts as the narrator and his words of wisdom are illustrated by excellent visuals. Topics range from the Indian caste system to technical inventions such as the kite, paper money, compass, abacus, naval mines, seismographs, water clock, umbrellas, and gunpowder. He explains that "once you begin to segregate people and persuade them that some are superior and others inferior, it takes a long time to disabuse them of that stupid idea." He speaks regrettably about how Chinese bound the feet of upper class women, a device developed by men to keep women submissive. Children would gain a lot of information about the Medieval Ages from this beautifully illustrated film. Did you know that Marco Polo is the person who introduced noodles to Italians after discovering them in China? Did you know the Olmecs were the first civilization in the Americas? Well structured, this flows easily from country to country, China to the Americas. It appears to be accurate in content and is definitely rich in content as well. There is a good balance between negative and positive events that takes place in the Medieval Times. Confucius speaks about how "when religious madness over powers reason, a civilization cannot progress" in terms of the events occurring in Medieval Europe.
