The show has the appearance at first of a typical action/adventure cartoon. But, it reaches levels of sophistication and purpose that far exceeds those types of shows. This is a fun way to teach new words and their meanings. Beautifully executed, the animated characters are quite wonderful. WordGirl is articulate and a great female role model. The humor and slightly unpredictable storyline holds your interest. The story sticks to its premise and flows smoothly. The narrator is very funny as he talks with the characters. It captures the attention of a wide range of viewers including adults. Difficult words are presented one at a time in a clever manner so the viewer learns without being aware of it.
"WordGirl "follows the adventures of mild-mannered fifth grader, Becky Bostford, who becomes WordGirl armed with a cape, vocabulary words and lots of definitions. With the help of her monkey Sidekick, WordGirl spends each episode defeating a quirky cast of villains with her power punches and dictionary strength. In Bookends/Mr.. Big, Tobey uses his robots to hold the town library hostage and WordGirl must play them in dodge ball.
