Wonderfully creative story about human tragedy, triumph, friendship and family. It is full of humor and is fun to read/watch. Children and parents should both enjoy it. Very creative and imaginative. The concept of a new kind of game, one that is won by brains instead of brawn is wonderfully original. Any child who has never been good at sports will find it particularly appealing, whether they are handicapped or not. It draws you in immediately at the beginning. It is exciting and interesting. We see an assortment of futuristic globes each with a small entrance hatch and a bright yellow painted battery powered engine. The plot development is very good, introducing challenging twists as it moves along. The ending is quite exciting with a competition between the buff athlete types and wheelchair bound Adam and his friends on the other. The characters are very credible and likeable. The reader emphasizes with Adam and his dad. We weren't thrilled that Denise's mother smokes but in the end she decides to quit smoking which provides a positive role model. The dialogue is extremely well written and you can easily visualize this as a film. There is a lot of humor in this story which kids will readily enjoy. Overall, it is wonderfully creative and would make a great film.
When Adam Reynolds became wheelchair bound from an injury suffered in a championship soccer game, his father is determined to develop a sport where Adam can become a player again, as well as the millions of other physically challenged. But, a big engineering company tries to steal the idea and a legal showdown of corporation vs. individual ensues. In the process, the family becomes united and closer.
