Teen can relate to many of the issues presented here and parents can learn from this. For adults, it's an open window to what kids are facing today - everything from teen pregnancy to abuse to cutters to war. It offers hope as well, in getting out of the negative behaviors. You get to know and care for the kids in the film and their situation. It seems pretty right on with contemporary teen issues. There is some profanity but not excessive. Clear visuals, good music, variety of styles.
This film is an adaptation of the groundbreaking original stage musical The Voices Project that toured to thirteen towns across Vermont in 2005 and was based on writings by Vermont teens with original by the teen. The stories and characters were developed during an intensive, yearlong statewide research phase in which more than 1000 teens participated. Shout it Out tells the story of a group of teenagers making their way through high school. The film follows them through some of the more tumultuous moments of teenagehood, academic pressure, friction with peers, teachers and parents; trying to fit in, try to find one's self, fear of the future; friendship, and first love.
