Mixed responses from kids. Some didn't like it because, compared it to sci fi movies they were familiar with, such as Star Wars, it doesn't hold up. "It could be a little more 'spacey." Some had difficulties understanding the storyline. Having the daughter played by different actresses is confusing. Other kids noted that the cast lacked diversity. The set was a hit. "We liked the ship and how it looked." They also liked the black and white segments of old sci movies.
This has a special campy charm. A parody of the science fiction genre, it's enjoyable as long as you keep that idea firmly in place. The interspersing of fiction and nonfiction is a bit much. It tends to stereotype the young characters with some borderline sexual innuendo. The production quality works for this parody. If you compare it to high budget sci fi movies, it wouldn't hold a candle to them. As long as you take this for what it is, it's enjoyable. It offers good role models in terms of people having to get along with others. The sound quality isn't always sharp.
In the finest tradition of old time space opera these stories follow the adventures of Captain Nick Cosmos and his daughter, the volatile alien-Zen-Ya, and crew aboard their star ship.
