The precocious Kay Thompson character, Eloise, is well known from the books by the same name. In this story, Eloise learns how fun life is in the city as she takes in the experiences that only a big city offers. She's not immediately enamored by her new nanny but things have a way of working out. Eloise is always enjoyable able. She has the qualities that children can relate to - she's inquisitive and smart but can also be jealous and selfish - all personality traits common in children. These are all worked into the program and make her easy to relate to. The story is written in a way that holds the attention of both children and adults. There are many lessons to be learned for example, Eloise experiences jealousy and explains how she felt in a way that is easy to understand. She shows how to be proactive and rectify a situation when she realizes how her jealousy has led her to a wrong conclusion.
Nanny is going on a much needed vacation with her brother Gavin, that means Eloise gets a temporary nanny - the young and hip Nicole. Nicole shows Eloise an exciting side of New York City that she knew nothing about and they have tons of fun. Unfortunately, most of the fun involves breaking rules! Soon though, Eloise notices that Nicole and Eloise's favorite Plaza employee, Bill are getting a little too friendly; and Eloise's jealousy rears its ugly head. Can Eloise break up this romance and get rid of Nicole without Nanny finding out?
