Kids loved this film, especially those who had read the book. They were curious about how the animation worked and appreciated Charlotte's wisdom. They didn't like when Charlotte dies but loved how Wilbur took the egg sack back to the barn where all the babies hatched.
Wonderful film. Classic story, well told. Good morals about friendship, loyalty and being true. Dakota Fanning is delightful as Fern, Julia Robert's voice as Charlotte just perfect, and the talking barnyard animals as delightful as "Babe." Loved it! When "Some Pig" is woven into Charlotte's web, it brings a certain magic with it and suddenly Wilbur becomes "Some Pig." It does address the topic of death but in a very appropriate way. Still, some kids may not be ready to think about the ramifications of pigs being slaughtered for food. The scene with the ax is a bit upsetting.
The classic story of loyalty, trust, and sacrifice comes to life in this live-action adaptation. Fern (Dakota Fanning) is one of only two living beings who sees that Wilbur is a special animal as she raises him, the runt of the litter, into a terrific and radiant pig. As Wilbur moves into a new barn, he begins a second profound friendship with the most unlikely of creatures - a spider named Charlotte - and their bond inspires the animals around them to come together as a family. When the word gets out that Wilbur's days are numbered, it seems that only a miracle will save his life. A determined Charlotte - who sees miracles in the ordinary - spins words into her web in an effort to convince the farmer that Wilbur is "some pig" and worth saving. Based on the Newbery award-winning book by E.B. White. Talent includes: Robert Redford, John Cleese, Dakota Fanning, Kathy Bates, Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts
