Kids enjoyed the drawing of the school bus and the chance to dream about their future trip to school. The magic pencil trick was enjoyed by the 4-and 5-year-olds. The children liked Ribert's use of exuberant words like "Frogerrific." The "never give up" attitude was picked up by the older kids as well.
Good graphic and general concept promoting friendship and learning new things. This episode has some weaknesses. The magic trick is too difficult for the youngest viewers to perform and the audio is slightly off. There is a mini-lesson about not giving up that may be difficult for some to understand because it is presented in a rather fashion. Also, the idea that kids will learn music in school is unfortunatley no universal today as many schools lack music programs. The style of the show is very good. It is predictable and sequential with good characters that model kindess and respect.
Ribert and the Power Pals discover that school can be fun while Robert learns the importance of going back to the drawing board. Joan sings a school song about friends, stories, music and more. Magic Matt teaches the Power Pals a great trick to try on their first day and Cousin Chris shows everyone a fun way to draw and color a school bus.
