Cute, simple with small lessons. Nellie is a sweet little dog that does things young children can relate to and asks questions they can relate to as well. If a child lives in a place where there is no ocean with tides, they could be confused about the reference to tides. It appears as if the water completely disappears, not just receeding.
Nellie, a little red dog who loves to go for boat rides in Long Island Sound tells of all the wonderful things that she can see, smell and do while out on the water. Being the playful dog that she is, Nellie does not want to return home with the captain. This ends up being a traumatic experience for Nellie and hopefully the wise words of Mr. Moon can calm her down and make her feel better.
