I like that it has real people in it. I would like ice cream like that.
Great music. Non-narrative. Simple storyline. Real life situation with an all African-American cast. Kids will most likely identify with craving something that is just out of reach. They can empathize with the boy who has the fun-in with the bully. The only negative part is the boy's solution to getting the ice cream by stealing. It is implied that stealing is wrong but happens so quickly it's easy to miss.
A down and out young boy sets his sights on a tall ice cream sundae in an old-fashioned diner despite having no money, a no-nonsense angry waitress in charge, and a team of bullies outside just waiting to pick on him.
