Produced in German, sub-titled in English. Student production. Well produced, reminescent of 'Flash Dance' but for younger kids. The relationship between the siblings is strained throughout but Kati stays with her goal, not swayed by her nasty older brother. Some profanity.
East Berlin, 1987, and the city is preparing for it's 750 year anniversary. Ten-year-old Kati lives with her brother Matthias and her mom in a council flat in Berlin - Hohenschönhausen. After Kati is talked into taking part in a dancing competition at school she is desperate. Together with Alina, a sporty classmate, she starts to practice in the halls of the council flats. But for the competition they still need the right music - the west-hit 'Surrender' by Jennifer Rush? The film tells the story of a new friendship - in a time where it is most important to keep up appearances.
