The original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory came to the big screen in 1971. I never saw the original but had seen a remake with Johnny Depp made in 2005. My favorite of the two is the adorable the 1971 version. WOW! 45th Year Anniversary! I sat in a packed theater and, 45 years after it was originally released, everyone was belly laughing. The film is so cute, colorful and the Oompa Loompas' had me laughing so hard.
The scene when Charlie (Peter Ostrum) and his Grandpa Joe (Jack Albertson) have to burp to get down from the ceiling is unforgettable and why it is my favorite scene. I love that they have Charlie and his Grandfather pretending to be birds, planes and so many other things that can fly or float in the air. I am now afraid to eat blueberries for fear I will turn into a giant blueberry and have to get squeezed and juiced back to normal size. The scenes are all so unique and contain memorable moments and you can tell they're the result of a very smart script.
The set design is outstanding with colorful candy everywhere you look - a dentist's dream and a mother's nightmare. They had a very clever design team. My favorite set is the chocolate river.
This film is full of many lessons. The children at the Wonka factory win a golden ticket in a Willy Wonka chocolate bar. They each teach us a different lesson about manners. Overall, the movie is about being a good honest person.
I recommend this film for ages 7 through 18. Kids will love the lessons and the colorful candy. They will want to live in the factory for the rest of their lives. Adults will love reconnecting with a film from their childhood. It is a sure favorite to watch over and over again.
This was one of my favorite movies in the category of Family Friendly films. I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars (chocolate of course). I give
