Originally produced as a segment for television's Howdy Doody Show in 1955, Gumby went on to become a star in his own right. His five-minute shows ran on various children's television programs continuously up into the 1970s. This summer, Rhino Home Video will release the original Gumby shows in VHS and DVD. The world's first and perhaps best-known clay animation character is as charming today as ha was when he was new.
