A classic coming of age story set in 1953 finds Elizabeth Wakefield, a 13-year-old New Zealand girl, eagerly awaiting her chance to meet Queen Elizabeth II. During preparations for the royal visit, Elizabeth finds herself in an unlikely friendship with an elderly Maori woman, Hira Mata, who lives directly on the Queen's parade route. Elizabeth is tested when she must choose between her loyalty to her friend and the chance to meet the Queen.
