Frightened younger viewers. Older kids were excited, wanted to act like gorillas and swing from trees. "The jungle was scary." "The people were bad and had guns." Sound track too loud at times. "'Terk' was very funny."
Lush animation and good bits of humor. Colonial safari hunters drawn at their worst. Intense fighting and violence punctuate fast-paced story. Violence may be necessary on African plains, but it's still scary.
Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' story, Tarzan is orphaned, then adopted by gorillas. He develops the instincts and prowess of a jungle animal. Later, Tarzan meets Jane, another human, and his two worlds become one. Songs by Phil Collins.
