Who is Ben Lyons?
Ben Lyons is a film correspondent and critic on the internationally syndicated show, EXTRA, where you can see him interviewing stars, reviewing movies, and covering red carpets, awards shows and film festivals. Previously, he worked for five years as a correspondent on the E! Network, as the host of AT THE MOVIES for Buena Vista Syndication, and as a west coast correspondent for ABC's GOOD MORNING AMERICA.
In addition to his current duties on EXTRA, Ben is a Sr. Contributor to Russell Simmons' website, GlobalGrind.com, and works with The New York Knicks creating content and hosting events for their fan site, KnicksNow.com.
Born and raised in New York City, Ben is the grandson of legendary New York Post columnist Leonard Lyons and is the son of film and theater critic Jeffrey Lyons. Much of his childhood was spent among the world's most artistic and influential people. The Lyons family has been covering pop culture in American media for more than 80 years.
Ben began his career behind the scenes, working at record labels Def Jam and Roc-A-Fella and then in production. He worked as an associate producer for ESPN, produced segments for the nationally syndicated Hip Hop Nation and produced music videos for various artists like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Black Moon and Tony Touch. His first job on television was as the co-host of MTV's Your Movie Show with SuChin Pak. He was seen regularly on MSNBC, Access Hollywood and as recurring contributor to NBC's Reel Talk, the show he helped conceive for his father.
Over the years, Ben has hosted 'My Family's Got Guts' for Nickelodeon and ESPN's coverage of the National School Scrabble Championships. He has been a guest on The View, The Bonnie Hunt Show and The Spike Feresten Show as well as on CNN, Fox News, ESPN Radio, NPR, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, CNBC, The CBS Early Show, Huffington Post Live, Good Day Live in Los Angeles and The Today Show on NBC.
Ben also has a career behind the scenes as an executive producer and creator of the E! International series, 'Extreme Close Up', as well as being a producer of the short film, ALEKESAM, about famed jazz musician Hugh Masekela and his son Sal that premiered at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival.
Ben currently lives in Los Angeles, is an avid golfer and sports fan, and works with several philanthropic organizations benefiting the lives of children around the world.
