Since 1991, the Coalition for Quality Children's Media (CQCM), a national (501-c-3) nonprofit, has been driven by a core mission: to cultivate critical viewers and expand access to enriching children's media. We advocate for content that reflects diverse voices and supports children's development, recognizing media's potential to drive meaningful social change.
We achieve our mission through three key initiatives:
1. KIDS FIRST! Media Reviews: We provide credible, free reviews of films, TV shows, and digital media, leveraging the unique perspectives of diverse adult and child juries. Our reviews are accessible on our website, blogs, social media, YouTube channel, and through strategic partnerships.
2. KIDS FIRST! Film Critics: Our 65 talented tween and teen reporters (ages 9-23) offer unique perspectives on the latest films and media. They conduct professional interviews with industry professionals and deliver insightful behind-the-scenes coverage.
3. KIDS FIRST! Film Festivals: We curate and co-host film festivals and standalone screenings with leading film festivals, children's museums, and diverse venues to provide unique cinematic experiences for young audiences and their families.
Our Vision: We envision a world where every child has access to transformative media that inspires, educates, and empowers them. The Coalition for Quality Children's Media strives to ensure every child has access to media content that inspires, educates, and fosters their development.
Our Support Network: The Coalition for Quality Children's Media is supported by a diverse network of partners and collaborators, including major entertainment industry leaders, teachers, librarians, media professionals, lobbyists, policymakers, child advocates, educators, parents, and families nationwide. Our supporters include the National Association of Family and Community Education, Daddying Advocacy Organization, and publishers such as Kidsville News, News-o-matic, Grand Magazine, Upscale Magazine, SoCalCityKids and more, whose combined audience reaches over 5 million readers.

KIDS FIRST! Film Critics empowers a diverse young voices (ages 9-23) from across the US as well as other countries to shape the media landscape. They review the latest films, TV shows, and digital content (rated PG-13 or younger), attend industry events, interview talent, and create compelling reviews in written and video format. Their work reaches over 5 million viewers per release across our website, e-zine, YouTube channel, radio show, social media, and partner publications.
Our critics provide a unique kid-friendly perspective, helping families make informed viewing choices and fostering critical media literacy among young audiences.

The KIDS FIRST! Film Festival celebrates independent and student filmmakers from around the globe, presenting compelling films in English or with English subtitles. We're dedicated to bringing children uplifting, inspiring, and age-appropriate cinematic experiences.
To ensure quality and positive impact, all festival selections must adhere to the KIDS FIRST! criteria:
- No gratuitous violence.
- No racial or cultural bias.
- No inappropriate sexual behavior.
- No replicable unsafe behavior.
- No condescension towards children.
Furthermore, films must convey an uplifting message and foster a sense of hope.
