Who is Carlee Spagnolo?
Carlee Spagnolo was a KIDS FIRST! reporter from 2020 to 2023 and is now a college freshman in the fall of 2023.
Recently, we asked Carlee about her experience with KIDS FIRST! and how it influenced her college experience and her experience as a young adult professional.
I will be a freshman in college in the fall. It was a difficult decision, but I have decided to pursue a major in Environmental Science. I have always loved nature and animals and, after taking a class in high school, I decided it would be an interesting career where I could make a difference. I still really enjoy many aspects of the entertainment business and have considered joining an extracurricular film club at college if they have one. Recently, my TSA team competed in a state video competition and won first place. My experiences in film and as a KIDS FIRST! reporter have been wonderful. Maybe one day I will be able to combine my interests in Environmental Science with film. I also hope to continue with some KIDS FIRST! assignments when I have time.
There are so many moments from my time as a KIDS FIRST! reporter that are memorable that it is hard to choose. I loved getting to interview actors and actresses that I look up to such as Peyton List and Miranda May (Bunk'd). I feel like I have learned a lot about how to communicate effectively through these opportunities. I have always loved watching movies and TV shows, and this was a great way to get to see a variety of them even before their official release dates. The assignments helped me to learn to watch films more critically, which I feel has made me appreciate the different aspects of filmmaking and all the hard work that goes into films even more. I gained an interest in CGI from reviewing some films and took some graphic imaging classes in high school. In addition, I enjoyed reviewing films about animals such as Honk and Stray which helped me realize how people and the environment affect animals and the need to help and protect them. This relates to my choice for a college major. Lastly, I met a lot of people in the entertainment industry online including other reporters. Making connections and new friends was one of the best parts of this job.
During my time with KIDS FIRST! I gained valuable information about the entertainment industry and developed skills that will help me to be successful in college and in life. Through this opportunity, I improved my writing skills, my communication skills and my critical thinking skills. I feel I am better able to express my thoughts clearly and concisely on paper and in conversation due to the guidance I have received. Being a part of KIDS FIRST! has been a wonderful learning experience with real world expectations in a supportive environment that has given me the confidence to face future challenges. I feel very fortunate to have been a part of this amazing team!
