KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - I like how Planning Your Dreams encourages a person to follow their dreams -- realistic dreams -- and guides them on how that can be achieved. My favorite part is the beginning simply because it clearly defines what a dream is. The book is simple and goes straight to the point so it's easy to follow along.

This is a guide book that teaches us how to plan our dreams and reminds us that how we tend to forget what we enjoy doing and what we always wanted to do as we become absorbed in different stages of our life.

I like how the book helps you understand exactly what a dream is and how you can achieve realistic dreams. It touches on what a dream plan is and how to analyze, nurture and develop your dreams into reality. The simplicity of the book makes it easy to follow and the illustrations hold your attention. I like how the book highlights the importance of following our dreams and passions. The book is well organized and flows well. It also allows the reader to journal their thoughts. I believe that with good guidance we truly can achieve our realistic goals and his book emphasizes that. This book touches on different chapters in our lives and emphasizes the importance of planning in order to succeed. Being able to plan also benefits our mental health. As Benjamin Franklin once said, "if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail."

I give Planning Your Dreams 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18, plus adults. It is available through online book retailers.

Planning your Dreams is very inspirational. What I like most about this book is how the author uses pictures at the start of every chapter.

This book is about having dreams, and planning them. It teaches you the steps to take toward achieving your goals and, gives you options if you do not achieve your goals.

This book teaches the reader many skills they could use in life to find a job and be successful in life. I like how it gives you steps towards achieving your goal and teaches kids to have an entrepreneur mind set, even at a young age. It reminds you that if you do what you love, you won't have to work a single day in your life. It gives options of jobs for certain interests and encourages people to try new things and find new interests. I like how it emphasizes that it's okay to fail and that, even if you don't have the talent to do something, it doesn't mean you can't do it -- you can always get trained. The book flows very well. Plus, I like how it teaches you what to do if you fail to achieve your goals. The vocabulary is definitely suitable for kids as well as adults. The illustrations are bright and colorful. One special feature I like is the sidebar where you can scroll through different chapters and pages. Another practical thing is that it has pages where you can write down your own goals and the steps needed to achieve them.

The book's message is that if you know what you want to do in life you have to work hard.

I give Planning your Dreams 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 18. It is available online at many online retailers.

Series: DOCUMENTARY, AGES 12 - 18
Description - Nuisance Bear is a Canadian short documentary film, directed by Jack Weisman and Gabriela Osio Vanden and released in 2021. The film is a portrait of the polar bears in and around the town of Churchill, Manitoba.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - see youth comments
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Nuisance Bear has glorious cinematography and superb storytelling that drive home its important message of peaceful coexistence with nature. It's a terrific film for all those who love the great outdoors, as well as for budding filmmakers.

Nuisance Bear follows a polar bear migrating across the town of Churchill in the Canadian province of Manitoba. People congregate to take pictures and videos, and the bear begins to clash with the locals. That is when the bear's journey takes a dramatic turn, and "nuisance bear" removal forces enter the scene.

Nuisance Bear is a documentarian's documentary. With no voiceover or speaking at all, the New Yorker team behind the film lets the images and captured video do the talking. And it's supremely effective. I especially love the way the wildlife forces' pickup truck is shot like it's the predator, not the bear; it approaches menacingly with high beams on and then veers to the side as the bear makes its escape. It's absolutely scintillating. In many scenes, there isn't even any background music, so all you hear is the soft stepping of the bear and the rumbling engines of the wildlife forces. Hat's off to directors Jack Weisman and Gabriela Osio Vanden for creating such a masterful piece of visual storytelling.

Nuisance Bear promotes respecting nature and ensuring you don't disrupt other beings endemic to your area. The film helps us realize that people are the real nuisance, not the bears.

I give Nuisance Bear 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18 plus adults. The film is available to watch on the New Yorker YouTube channel now.

Stayhealthy's new educational app includes fruits, vegetables, and a magical look into the human body with engaging new characters every month! Color your favorite character, press the magic button, read a fun health fact, and see your new creation come to life and dance in front of you in augmented reality (AR). Keep on coloring to unlock all the characters to win badges, play bonus games, and become the ultimate Magic Health Master in this coloring adventure!
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - coming soon
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Color Quest AR is a fantastic, interactive new app that I highly recommend. It is the ultimate creativity app, with a combination of digital drawing, coloring and augmented reality features that blew my mind.

In Color Quest AR, you can choose one of three fun characters available for free, or purchase any of other themed characters for a fee. Then, you proceed to the coloring screen, where you choose between various colors and brush sizes and use your finger to color in your chosen character. Once satisfied with your character, head on over to the augmented reality feature, where you can look through the screen and watch your personalized character come to life in front of you, no matter where you are!

There are apps for digital coloring; there are apps for augmented reality. But this one-of-a-kind app allows you to pursue both interests in a single app. My jaw dropped when I first saw my personally-colored character appear in front of me. I am so impressed by how real it truly seems. Your character just pops up in front of you, wherever you are. Another detail of the app that stands out is the wide variety of color options. There are six main colors, with five shades within each color option. In addition, there are four brush sizes. This allows you to color smaller areas without going outside of the lines, and use the brush more efficiently in larger areas. Even the eraser feature has different thicknesses, making it easier to make deletions. Color Quest AR has so many additional features that I can't even begin to name them all. An important one to call attention to is the educational aspect. While the character is being loaded into augmented reality, a health fact pops up. These involve animals, parts of the body and many fun facts. This helps hold your attention during the time the loading circle spins. There is also a music video with the app's characters, and background music options to immerse yourself in. If you look in the menu, you can even click to find a playlist that'll spark your creativity and motivate you as well.

Color Quest AR excels at developing creativity, problem-solving skills and patience while also being educational and tons of fun. It is totally child-safe. One thing I will note is that there are optional in-app purchases. While the app can still be enjoyed and used without these paid features, be sure that your child doesn't accidentally buy something without permission.

I give Color Quest AR 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 2 to 8. Color Quest AR is available now anywhere you get your apps.

THAT'S TOTALLY NORMAL!

THAT'S TOTALLY NORMAL!

Series: PODCAST, AGES 8-12
Description - Yes, this is the podcast about the science of puberty. As soon as we're born our bodies are constantly growing, changing, breaking and at times, confusing us. And the biggest changes, growths and confusions seem to come when we're young, vulnerable and easily embarrassed. Yes, we're talking about puberty. And yes, it sometimes can be hard to talk about. But, it doesn't need to be. Put on some headphones and lean in as we break down the biology, chemistry and health topics of growing, changing and going up. The host is Dr. Tessa Commers a board-certified pediatrician (MD, FAAP) based in Seattle, WA.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - That's Totally Normal! is interesting and puts science and puberty in layman's terms, while simultaneously giving young teenagers healthy relationship advice.

The podcast That's Totally Normal! discusses puberty and the various topics include changing relationships, voice changes, growth spurts, stretch marks and cellulite. Hosted by Dr. T, each show begins with an introduction backed with an upbeat song. The setup for the episode is prompted by a listener's question that relates to the topic.

The audio is crisp and the production value is wonderful. It is easy to listen to and the topics are age appropriate and engaging. An example of how the podcast is engaging, yet informative is in the episode, "Changing Relationships." This episode includes various snippets of responses and stories of multiple young teenagers that are interviewed. This reinforces the central idea that it is totally normal for young teenagers to experience the things they are experiencing. Dr. T gives scientific explanations, in a simple way, as to why puberty causes young teenagers to act the way they do. Dr. T explicates responses that can better alleviate future disagreements with young teenagers and their friends, peers and family.

The message of this podcast is that truly, what teens are experiencing is completely normal and backed by sciences and the experiences of others.

Overall, I give That's Totally Normal! 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 18. You can listen to it now on TRAX at https://www.trax.fm/thats-totally-normal

By Tor F., KIDS FIRST!
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - I like the podcast That's Totally Normal. It is informational and enjoyable. I learned things that I didn't know but, I thought I knew. The film talks about a variety of topics and it's nice to choose what you want to listen to hear other people's point of view. I could relate to the things that these women are talking about.

Hosted by a female doctor, each episode in this podcast addresses different topics. I listened to "Where's My Period, And When Will It Be Regular," "The Erection Episodes" and "Hair Down Where?" They discuss different things like odor, acne, periods, body image and etc. We learn what causes these things, how normal they are and how they happen to everyone. Also, there are youth guests on the show so you can listen to a kids' point of view.

I learned more about guys' and girls' bodies how they work. There are many cool facts on this podcast that interest me and make me want to learn much more about my own body. My favorite episode is "The Erection Episode." It made me feel like I wasn't alone in my curiosity about boys. I'm sure other girls my age have questions about these same things. It helped learning more about boys' bodies and how they deal with them.

The message of this podcast is that our bodies are normal and, in my case, every girl is going to experience what I am - periods, body image, boys, drama and more. In the case of boys, every guy is going through the same sorts of things - enlargement, insecurities, odor and such. Everything going on in your body is normal and you don't need to be ashamed because the person standing next to you or your friend is going through the exact same things that you are. Our bodies are normal. This podcast talks about things that people might be uncomfortable talking about and that some kids might not be ready for but are curious about. It is very informational and could help lots of people that are thinking about their bodies constantly, wondering what is going on.

I give That's Totally Normal 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 10 to 18. You can find this podcast online at TRAX at https://www.trax.fm/thats-totally-normal

Puberty, sex and ejaculation? These words used to make me cringe, but that is because I didn't know what they actually meant. Now I know That's Totally Normal!

The podcast That's Totally Normal! explores all of those uncomfortable and embarrassing topics we would rather not talk about or educate ourselves about. However, it is done in such a way where, not only is the audience comfortable, but more informed. On average, each episode is eleven minutes in length or substantially less.

Host and writer Dr. Tessa Commers, known to us as Dr. T, has a youthful and reassuring voice. As a board-certified pediatrician and the writer of this podcast, the information she provides can be trusted and taken to heart. Editor and Sound Designer John Ross makes the entire podcast come together by adding whimsical and funny sound effects that make the information easier to take. My favorite episode is "Acne," where Dr. T discusses the world of zits, pimples and even bacne.

The positive and uplifting message of the podcast That's Totally Normal! suggests that "we are all in this together." While our bodies may be different, together we experience many of the same things.

That's Totally Normal! gets 5 out of 5 stars and I recommend it for ages 10 to 18, as well as adults. You can find the podcast That's Totally Normal! on TRAX at https://www.trax.fm/thats-totally-normal

Series: PODCAST, AGES 8-12
Description - We Got You is a podcast that gives a voice to every kid out there who doesn't have anyone to go to, with advice straight from teens who've been there before. We Got You is a weekly advice podcast where teens answer questions from middle schoolers across the country on life, loneliness and an uncertain future. We Got You is produced by Sonic Union.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - We Got You is a wonderful tool, particularly during the pandemic when some children are unable to make it to their therapy appointments. But, it's relevant to others that are not in therapy also.

The podcast We Got You is a series aimed towards tweens and teens that do not have someone to confide in. The speakers are older teenagers that have been through some difficult things that the younger teens are dealing with such as divorce, depression and suicide. Each episode begins with the host, Samantha Logan, introducing the topic of discussion, then the guest (an older teen) tells their story. Through the older teen's story, advice and reassurance for the younger teens is given.

This podcast is very well produced and informative. The audio is crisp; the intros on all the podcasts are uniform and the background music during the host's introduction is suitable. The issues addressed are perfect for tweens and teens. For example in the episode "Jazmine - Depression is OK to Discuss," Jazmine discusses how she felt extremely alone and could not understand why she felt so sad all the time. She reassures the listener that they are not "crazy" if their mental health is not 100% all the time and they should find healthy coping mechanisms to get themselves out of a depressive situation.

The message of this podcast is that you are not alone in feeling the way you do, that others have experienced similar things and can give you advice on how to manage your feelings.

I give We Got You 5 out of 5 stars and recommend this to ages 8 to 12. You can listen to this now on TRAX at https://www.trax.fm/we-got-you.

By Tor F., KIDS FIRST!
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - A candid and honest look at modern teens' lives with incisive commentary on mental illness, coping with conflict and other timely topics, We Got You is a great listen for kids looking for answers.

Have you ever felt like you are experiencing something negative that no one else is? Well, We Got You reassures you that there is someone who has been there and done that before, sharing the perspectives of kids on growing up, thriving and surviving in an uncertain world, and dealing with the darker aspects of life. Each episode has two parts. First, a kid speaks about their experiences. For example, one episode centers around a girl named Asha and her experiences with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Second, the floor is opened up for questions about the subject, which are submitted through the show's Twitter account, and the main speaker is joined by one or two other kids who share their personal experiences and thoughts. The show is hosted by actress Samantha Logan, but she takes a backseat in the podcasts, and it feels like each episode is really hosted by the kid who's sharing their thoughts.

The kids on the show are truly skilled raconteurs, presenting their experiences in an engaging way that makes you feel for them. Many of the speakers bore their hearts on the podcast, especially in the episodes about mental health, and it is heartwarming to see that they feel confident to share their experiences and thoughts so openly. The podcast is full of earnest perspectives and the roundtable segment features lots of great questions that I would definitely have asked. The sound designer Rob Ballingall also beautifully blends together sound bites with some sound effects and background music to make the podcast even more intricate.

The message of We Got You is quite simple: you don't have to go through anything alone. It's a podcast with a purpose, a beautiful one at that, and it's executed wonderfully.

I would give We Got You 5 stars out of 5, and recommend it for ages 12 to 18. You can listen to We Got You on TRAX at https://www.trax.fm/we-got-you

By Eshaan M., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 14

The We Got You podcast is an amazing outlet for kids and teens that don't have a voice or need extra inspiration to help cope with their challenges. This podcast is all about helping others hold onto hope.

Writer / creator (Halle Petro) and producer (Sonic Union) proudly presents We Got You. Many episodes have guest speakers that talk about their conflicts. The podcast covers such topics as dyslexia, anxiety, depression, PTSD, social media, bullying and lots more.

I love this podcast series, because it includes so many inspirational stories. I got a sense of thankfulness while listening to the first couple of episodes. Although the podcast is audio only, it makes you take the time to settle down and listen. The guest speakers are so strong in their ability to speak out and spread awareness. Each episode is about 15 to 20 minutes long. They are full of amazing stories and a Q and A. The Q and A at the end of each episode includes middle-schoolers from around the country that get their questions answered by teens that have been there before. Especially during these tough times due to COVID-19, taking care of our physical and mental health is important. The weekly advice in these podcasts encourages kids and teens to come of age in the world around us. In each episode the real life example is accompanied by music that transports the listener to that space. Listening to these stories can give anyone hope, courage and gratitude.

I got lots of messages from this podcast, although the one that stood out the most is to hold onto hope. Never give up; have courage!

I give the podcast series We Got You series 5 out 5 stars and recommend it for ages 9 to 16. The We Got You podcast is currently available on TRAX podcast page at https://www.trax.fm/we-got-you.

By Avery P., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 13

We Got You is such an inspirational podcast. I love it. It shares stories from teens all over the country that have gone through hard times and makes them feel heard. This podcast also makes you feel lots of emotions and is almost as entertaining as a regular TV show.

For example, one of the episodes talks about Jaelin, an 18-year-old boy who lost both of his parents before the age of nine, and went through childhood being abused by his stepfather. His journey continues as Jaelin finds hope through his brothers and friends.

One of the best things about this podcast is the emotions. You can really feel all that Jaelin's been through, from the death of his first parent to losing his second. His enlightening speech gives you hope that there is always a way out, no matter how much you have been through. Many movies, TV shows and podcasts use music to convey emotions. However, We Got You doesn't need music to show what these kids are feeling; you only need to hear their stories. To be able to show emotion without music is pretty hard, so that really intrigued me.

In the words of Dumbledore, "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, when only one remembers to turn on the light." This describes the message of the podcast (even though it's not said in that way), that you should never lose hope. There are no foul words or concepts, but there is some mention of aggressive behavior. An example is Jaelin speaking of his father both verbally and physically abusing him.

I give We Got You 4.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 10 to 18 and anyone who is going through a hard time. We Got You can be found on Trax at https://www.trax.fm/we-got-you.

Series: DOCUMENTARY, AGES 10 - 18
Description - Former Chief Official White House Photographer Pete Souza's journey as a person with top secret clearance and total access to the President.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - I love this documentary. Dawn Porter knocks it out of the park once again with her insightful showcase of the talented Pete Souza's photojournalism work. The behind the scenes shots of Obama, from the time he was a new senator in DC to his 8 year term as President of the USA, you see the humanness of this man. You see him as a husband, father and friend. You see how much he cared for his country, how deeply he felt the responsibilities of the Presidency. Some of the photos were familiar to me, many were not. The shot of the young black kid touching Obama's hair is one that sticks in my mind forever. The idea that he would bend over so this young boy could feel his hair and know that it was the same as his own - who does that? What world leader does that? Only Obama. When he goes to the Baptist church to the funeral of those that were murdered and begins to sing Amazing Grace, I almost lost it. I have seen clips of this before, but somehow Porter's documentary shows it to us in a new wry. Yes, I love him, and cherish the precious years that he was our President. Here's hoping that we will again experience such civility in our government and soon. Reviewed by Julie S., KIDS FIRST!
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - The sensational director, Dawn Porter, did it again with another entertaining and powerful documentary, The Way I See It! Porter is a genius at creating films based on inspiring images of her subjects and letting the pictures tell the story. The timing of this film is perfect because of upcoming Presidential elections and how it shows historic moments in the lives of past respectable Presidents through photos from the eyes of official White House photographer Pete Souza.

The Way I See It is a documentary based on Souza's New York Times #1 bestsellers, Obama: An Intimate Portrait and Shade: A Tale of Two Presidents. It gives an inside look of two powerful Presidents in U.S. history, Barack Obama and Ronald Reagan, through photographs taken by Pete Souza. It tells the story through clips from interviews and unique photos and shows the responsibilities of being the person holding the most powerful position on Earth.

Pete Souza was able to get an "up close and personal" look at monumental and intimate moments of former President Barack Obama and President Ronald Reagan during their terms. The setting of the film is at the White House. The scenes are very realistic because they are based on factual events. The documentary includes heartwarming clips and moments such as when these Presidents gave their speeches while running for office, their lives outside of being Presidents and just having fun. The music in this film really helps drive the story.

I love that The Way I See It did not feel like just a documentary meant to show how America is in the state it is in now. The message of the film is that we have to look at our past to understand how we get to a certain place in life. While the film doesn't really talk about President Trump, it shows that our country was in a better place before he became President. I rate The Way I See It 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 18. Adults that like documentaries and history will also love this film. You can find this film in theaters September 18, 2020 and premiering on MSNBC October 9, 2020.

FEELING MY FLO

Series: PODCAST, AGES 8-12
Description - Why a period is so much more than punctuation. Feeling My Flo is a reported podcast where menstruation is an event that happens to all types of bodies. The show features menstruators who identify all along the gender spectrum and is geared toward young people eager for information and community as they experience one of the most transformative changes in their lives. In addition to centering the stories of menstruators from a broad swath of cultural and economic backgrounds, the podcast offers reliable and actionable information about the changes that occur when people menstruate. Feeling My Flo is produced by Lantigua Williams & Co.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - I wish I had been exposed to a podcast like Feeling My Flo when I started my period! Young girls are told to just deal with, endure and stay silent. The stigma surrounding the menstruation cycle is heavy, and this is just the podcast for all the menstruators fighting the battle with this natural entity.

Feeling My Flo is an educational podcast hosted by Kamilah Kashanie that talks about how "menstruation is an event that happens to all types of bodies." In this 20 episode series, Kamilah speaks to menstruators of all kinds. Whether they are 10 years old and just beginning this journey or a transgender man. We learn about the innovative period projects that exist to destigmatize menstruation such as the period emoji, tampon run and even an educational comic book made in India. We learn about how menstruation can affect a woman travelling to space, be viewed differently throughout generations of women, and can affect the relationship between a father and daughter. There are even certified healthcare professionals giving their expert advice on the different stages of a period and how normal all of it is.

As a menstruator myself, I am thoroughly shocked at some of the facts that I hear in this podcast. NASA scientists thought that Sally Ride, the first American woman to go to space, would need 100 tampons for a week in space. But facts like that only make Feeling My Flo stand out from other forms of education on menstruation. I love that it includes the experiences of many types of people who get their periods and sheds a light on all of the embarrassing moments that all of us have definitely experienced. I love how concise yet detailed the script for this podcast is. In a short 20 episode run of about 10 minutes per episode, this podcast covers almost everything you may need to know about periods and the media surrounding them. If I could, I would make my 11-year-old self listen to this podcast when she started crying after her first period, because maybe then she would realize how normal what she is going through is. Kamilah Kashanie is an excellent host and an eloquent speaker. She really has a strong presence in her voice, and I am beyond excited to hear her future podcasts.

For all of the young girls and boys out there who don't understand the tumultuous world of the menstrual cycle, whether you will be or are experiencing it (or not), this podcast explains how all of it is normal and that there is nothing to be ashamed of. This podcast promotes starting a conversation whether that is with your parents, friends, or doctors. And not fully loving your period and accepting it for what it is, is completely okay. You are allowed to not be okay, to be in pain and take it easy for a few days.

I rate this podcast an easy 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to kids ages 9 to 18. I will probably also recommend it to my high school and middle school health teachers as well. You can listen to Feeling My Flo on Trax at https://www.trax.fm/feeling-my-flo

KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Feeling my Flo is a podcast that deals with menstruation talk over the course of 21 short episodes. To start off, it is produced gorgeously so the podcast really feels like a natural conversation. Credits to the lead producer, Cedric Wilson. Plus, the sound design, by Kojin Tashiro, is interesting to hear - especially the intro song. FFeeling My Flo is definitely worth giving a listen.

Feeling My Flo answers questions and concerns about people all across the gender spectrum that experience menstruation. This inclusivity is important as everyone deserves to be properly educated and prepared for such a big change in their life. Essentially, the goal of this podcast ventures deeper than just schooling teenagers on what's going on in their bodies; the creators try to normalize menstruation talk. Away with period shame!

While the production of the podcast is extremely important, the most attractive feature of Feeling My Flo is its ability to freely discuss all the variables that affect periods. This is not to say the production is anything less than phenomenal; it most certainly is. The episode where they highlight the ways eating disorders hurt your menstrual health is particularly memorable, as Annie goes into detail about her experiences. This episode should be viewed with an adult, as the content can be triggering. Overall, Feel the Flo is the perfect way to teach young people how to deal with their periods.

The message behind Feeling My Flo is to never be ashamed of the most natural thing your body can do - menstruation! A beautiful lesson every child should learn.

I rate Feeling My Flo 5 out of 5 stars and recommend this podcast for ages 8 through 16. You can find this awesome podcast online now at TRAX: https://www.trax.fm/feeling-my-flo

Series: DOCUMENTARY, AGES 12-18
Description - The community of Paradise, California, a town in the Sierra Nevada foothills, attempts to rebuild after devastating wildfires in 2018.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - see youth comments
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Rebuilding Paradise is a surprisingly engaging documentary about the town of Paradise, California. This film shows the aftermath of a very recent wildfire event, and, maybe it's just because I live in California and vividly remember news about the fires, but I found this film to be quite personal.

The documentary details how Paradise was destroyed by the wildfires in 2018, how it affected the townspeople and their hopes of rebuilding the town. A majority of the runtime is spent following townspeople and the hardships they face due to losing their town. These scenes are very raw and emotional, which is good for a film like this. However, my only problem with this film and how the story is presented is that the documentary doesn't really have a thesis. Initially this didn't bother me, until I realized it is somewhat contradictory to have several scenes showing council meetings and the townspeople speaking out against the government's handling of the situation, yet no clear answer to the presented problems. Towards the end, it feels like they are trying to make viewers forget about all the financial issues and displacement the fires caused, by showing happy scenes of local festivals and high school graduation. Those scenes are then juxtaposed with the segment dedicated to how the destruction led to a poisoned water supply, which has never really been resolved.

Despite this lack of singular point of view, I did genuinely get emotional during a lot of the scenes focusing on the townspeople. I mentioned I live in California and have had to evacuate due to fires. Now, what I experienced was nowhere near as heartbreaking as what Paradise experienced, but it was certainly terrifying and hard to process since it was so sudden. So I truly felt awful for these people. Especially since they go into detail about the history and legacy behind Paradise, even showing old film footage from decades ago, which surprised and also fascinated me.

I also want to discuss the first eight minutes of the movie. It's all just phone call footage and news reports on the fire as it was happening. It truly gives a sense of scale of the event in real time, and puts you in the shoes of the townspeople. It's intense and quite heartbreaking at points, and perfectly sets up the rest of the film.

I give Rebuilding Paradise 3 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18. It releases on July 31, 2020.

Octonauts: Ocean Adventures is a DVD collection of episodes from The Octonauts, a group of sea creatures lead by Captain Barnacles to go on exciting missions all across the world. This is a highly educational show, though this fact is hidden in many fun and informative adventures. Kids enjoy the mindful characters and upbeat music while learning a lot.

All the characters are engaging and interesting. They have good interpersonal relationships. The storylines oftentimes highlight problem solving-skills and thoughtful learning. The characters work together as a team, which is great modeling for kids to see. The animation has bright colors and backgrounds. The backgrounds make the film really interesting and fun to watch. The music is very catchy and any child who has heard it will recognize it immediately. It's definitely danceable for both preschoolers and young elementary school aged. The music is very much a highlight of the show.

Of course none of these stories would happen in real life, as it is a fictional cartoon. Captain Barnacles and Dashi are the most memorable characters in the series. They are mindful, personable characters. My favorite part is when they're surrounded by all the creatures that want to eat Little Jimmy and they try to fight off the creatures. They use the boat to get out and are followed to the main ship and then they turn on the lights. Captain Barnacles is a brave person and a true leader. He helps people when necessary, especially people in need. Always help people in need when you can is a prominent message in each episode. I learned all about bomber worms and how they use flares to defend themselves and signal their friends. They live in the middle of the trench because if they go to the bottom they can't swim back up and can easily die.

I give Octonauts: Ocean Adventures 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 2 to 9. It is available now on DVD so look for it.

By Hanna M., KIDS FIRST! Adult reviewer
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - I like the Octonauts: Ocean Adventures because the animation is so cute and the characters are super funny. It can get a little repetitive for older kids when you watch more than a couple episodes, but I think little kids would want to watch all six episodes on the DVD. I really like how each episode shows the actual animal, and not just the animated one. It allows viewers to get a better idea of what the animals looks like in real life.

This DVD has different episodes about a specific animal that lives in the ocean. The Octonauts, featuring Captain Barnacles, ex-pirate Kwazii (a cat) and medic Peso (a penguin) go on a bunch of adventures under the ocean. In one episode, the Octonauts help two very competitive shrimp that are fighting, become best friends. In another one, a confident polar bear goes underwater with Kwazii and Peso to talk to little worms they meet and look for one worm that sank to the bottom of the ocean. Other characters, like an otter, help Kwazii search for parts after their ship crashes to the bottom of the ocean. It's a very fun DVD because there is a lot of action and you always want to know what will happen next.

All of the characters have their own personality, such as the penguin, named Peso. Peso is very scared, but Kwazii (the cat) is not afraid of anything. I love how all of the characters are so different from one another. It reminds me of some of my friends who like different things than I do, or have a shy personality. Even though we are different, we still have fun together. My favorite part about this DVD is when Peso gets so scared of the huge "monster," but it's not quite a monster. You'll have to watch the DVD to find out what the creature actually is. I also like the blobfish who always wants food--especially worms--but is so slow he often misses out on a snack. That character is probably the funniest part of the DVD.

The message of this show is: if you work together, you can even save people's lives. It's amazing what you can do when you work together. Even if you different from one another, you can still use the strengths of each person in the group to be successful.

I give this DVD 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 4 to 9. This DVD is out now, so go look for it.

I was absolutely thrilled with the stories told in the DVD Octonauts: Ocean Adventures. This series of tales is full of twists and turns that will keep you engaged throughout the six action packed episodes. You will have tons of fun and learn valuable lessons along with the Octonauts, Captain Barnacles, ex-pirate Kwazii and medic Peso.

Octonauts: Ocean Adventures follows a team of underwater explorers that save ocean life and protect their habitats. The Octonauts help all animals and sea life ranging from the predatory mantis shrimp to the wiggly bomber worms. While doing this, the gang faces troubles such as transportation breaking down and fights between other animals. Even though the troubles seem tough, the Octonauts always manage to come through and learn skills to help them in life.

In this DVD, we are introduced to six episodes: Mantis Shrimp, Kelp Monster Mystery, Bomber Worms, Loneliest Whale, Operation Cooperation, and Spinner Dolphins. Each episode tells a unique story. I truly enjoyed each episode and did not get bored with any of them. The fun ocean setting captivated me, since there are so many things that are unknown about the ocean habitat. I was happily surprised when I heard the voices of all the characters. Instead of having high, cartoonish voices, the Octonauts voices are deep, and some even have accents. I particularly liked Captain Barnacles' English accent voiced by Ross Breen. That isn't the only audible thing I enjoyed. I was very entertained by the music. It sets a tone and makes situations seem much more relaxed, dire or whatever the mood may be. The clever theme music composer Darren Hendly is to thank for the catchy intro. Lastly, I really appreciate the animation style in this show. It is funny and adorable, without giving a fake impression of how these animals truly look.

The message behind these episodes is that, even when there are problems that seem tough and unsolvable, you can count on teamwork and kindness to always help you out. If we all help each other out, the problems can be fixed and you can gain important lessons from them.

I give Octonauts: Ocean Adventures 5 out of 5 stars and I recommend it to ages 6 to 12. This collection can be found on DVD and Digital now.

I am a big fan of the Octonauts series and this DVD is one of my favorites. It never gets boring and kept me looking forward to the next episode.

Octonauts: Ocean Adventures is about a team of under-the-sea adventurers. They explore, rescue and protect everything in the ocean. We follow them along many expeditions like cleaning the ocean and helping a lonely whale. Episodes include Mantis Shrimp, Operation Cooperation, Kelp Monster Mystery and more. The DVD runs about an hour, so it is the perfect amount of entertainment for a younger audience.

This is such an educational, yet fun DVD. I learned about animals that I had no idea even existed! Children will enjoy it, and so will others! It is great for the whole family to watch. The animation is simple, yet adorable, and the sea animals are darling. There are a lot of episodes in the Octonauts series and, just when you think that you have learned it all, NCircle Entertainment always throws more stuff at you to learn, and you're having a blast doing it. The characters' voices in Octonauts fit their personalities perfectly. Simon Greenall has a flawless, bold polar bear voice, Paul Panting plays a wonderful, gentle penguin and Bob Rackstraw voices a magnificent, dare-devil cat. My favorite episode is Bomber Worms because I learned about this animal for the first time and how interesting and unique they are.

There are many positive messages throughout the DVD including teamwork, friendship, being adventurous, and loving animals.

I give this DVD 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 2 through 9. This DVD is currently available.

The Octonauts: Ocean Adventures is such a fun and educational DVD! It offers a good mix between learning about marine life and entertaining younger kids. This series will entertain kids for more than an hour while they explore the world's oceans.

Octonauts: Ocean Adventures is about a team of adventurers called the Octonauts that explore the world's oceans, rescue the creatures who live there and protect their habitats on land and sea. The DVD includes 6 episodes of fun, underwater adventures that teach kids all about the oceans and many of the animals that live there.

The protagonists in the movie are Captain Barnacles (Simon Greenall), Kwazii (Rob Rackstraw), an ex-pirate and a doctor named Peso (Wayne Grayson). Other animal friends show up on different episodes to join the Octonauts on their various quests. My favorite episode was The Loneliest Whale because I love how the Octonauts help the lonely whale, named Joe, find other whales and food. It is really heart-warming. The characters are all really nice, sweet, open-minded and have hearts of gold. While I love the main Octonauts, my favorite characters are Dashi and her little sister Koshi, because they work well together, have a great bond, love the same things and can relate and understand each other. The animation is so fun that it makes you feel like you are on missions with the Octonauts. The setting under the sea is really beautiful with neon colors that kids will love watching. It is really creative how everything the Octonauts use, such as the Octopod and the Gups, look like real animals.

This DVD encourages friendship, kindness and teamwork. The message across all episodes is that when you have kindness you can build great friendships and that teamwork is really important because it helps you get the job done faster. This movie has a G rating and there isn't anything parents need to be warned about.

Octonauts: Ocean Adventures is a great show for younger kids. Kids will definitely learn about the world's oceans, smarine life and how to be great friends and work together. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for kids ages 2 to 8. This is out on DVD now, so make sure you go check it out.

Description - Bookful is a mobile app for kids that uses augmented reality to bring books to life. Choosing from an extensive library of AR books that features the best publishers and brands such as Penguin Random House, DK and Hasbro, the child can learn, read and have fun at the same time.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - This reading app is so much fun! If you wouldn't normally call reading "fun," then you need to experience Bookful so it can change your idea of reading forever.

Bookful is no ordinary reading app. It is an augmented reality reading library for children. Within an augmented reality experience, the viewer becomes an actual participant. Inside the app, the user is offered an assortment of reading choices, moves, games, entertainment, interaction and encouragement!

After the easy download for any Apple or Android smart phone or tablet, the Bookful app begins to come to life. The sign up steps are made very clear with big buttons and clean instructions. I found the quick set-up process to be very simple with helpful prompts. This took me less than one minute to complete!

Inside the Bookful app I saw moving animated books on shelves in an endless library and an entire community of activities surrounding them. Diving into the app, I found myself on an adventure right away. I played a short game, for which I earned points. Then I was whisked away into a book that was directly related to the game. In this case it was knocking down stacked boulders in a prehistoric jungle. After I completed that game I was able to open a book all about dinosaurs.

I really enjoy the way Bookful held my attention as I moved seamlessly from activity to activity. My mind had no time to wander as I was constantly being drawn into another new part of my session. This ability to keep me engaged is encouraging for me as a mother, because I am always looking for ways to keep my children interested in educational tasks. Bookful holds the attention of the user extremely well.

Bookful is different from other reading apps I have used in the past. Normally books in an app are accompanied by audio for the user and sometimes a marker that helps the user follow along with the words being read. In the case of Bookful's reading experience, not only are the words read by incredibly entertaining voice actors, but the books themselves jump off the pages! Literally!

I'm not a tech expert, but I can tell this is very cool technology. I was able to access the AR capabilities of this app so easily. If I can do it, anyone can. I was able to choose my surroundings for my reading session. I could read my book in a virtual room designed by the makers of the app, or in my own room at home. The app allowed me to virtually place the book down on my own coffee table at home and flip through the pages like I was wearing 3D goggles. I'm sure there is a fancier way to explain what this is, but all I know is that it is super cool!

Once the books are opened, the characters inside the book lift up like in the pop-up books of my youth. Those standing characters then move around the pages as they act out the lines being read. It's truly incredible. I was in awe.

Bookful is the next level in reading education. I can't wait to get back to reading more books in this app. As a parent, I'm excited to allow my children screen-time that is so cutting edge and useful. I know that my kids are enjoying their reading experience and that is so important to me. I've always loved reading and I know the benefits of reading. I believe Bookful will help us raise a generation of young learners who truly love to read.

I recommend this app for ages 4 to 18, and adults will enjoy it too. This is good for boys and girls as well as for mom and dad. I give the Bookful app a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. If I could give it more stars I would.

KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - I like this app very much because it's a 3D digital book app about creating a magical, playful universe for book lovers like myself.

Bookful is a mobile app for kids that can be used on both Android and Apple devices. The app allows you to read books and play games about the books. It contains a library of Accelerated Reader books and has a Parent Zone menu which includes tells you what this app is about, their privacy policy, terms and conditions, how to send mail, notifications, FAQ, how to restore purchase and how to sign out. The main menu consists of My Books, Featured (books), Friendship, an icon of the 3D map, the volume icon, parent icon and a happy face star with the number of coins I accumulated while playing or interacting with these digital audio books.

When you first open the app you are greeted with delightful music and it really gets you excited to start the interaction with the digital books and what you are about to see. The graphics are very bright and colorful. The app has an older man's voice that narrates the stories in a form of rhyme similar to The Cat in the Hat.

My favorite part about this app is the 3D digital map, because I can interact with it. I like how there are little mini games about the books and, when I read them it's in 3D. I also liked playing the mini game in space, where I had to get stars without hitting any objects. I also had to get letters to spell words. When you spell a word it gives you three hearts. You loose hearts by hitting objects.

The Bookful app teaches children how to read at their level in a very fun and enjoyable way, by interacting with the app and using their visual and audition senses.

I give this app 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to ages 4 to 18. Adults might enjoy this app as well when playing it with their children. It is available now from the app store.

Bookful is a fun and resourceful learning app that can be used to help teach kids read. It incorporates modern technology. For example, Bookful gives a 3D option and a VR option, which makes reading books much more fun. There are other ways that it makes reading fun, like playing a game with different levels to get to a certain part of a book. Bookful makes reading fun with new ways to explore books.

When the book comes to life on your screen, it makes it so much more real than just reading a regular book. When I was exploring the app I found that the even characters come to life and that's awesome! This app really gives kids the experience of a lifetime.

Another good thing about this app is that while you are learning how to read and write, you can also color in the characters. Now that is cool. You get a variety of books and each comes with an amazing story that kids will love. No matter how a kid feels about reading and learning, this app will make them feel better about it.

I love that this app comes with lots of different books to read. For example, when you first enter the app it takes you to a huge book library where you can choose whatever book you or your child prefers. Bookful makes kids and parents very happy for various reasons. Bookful makes you or your child want to keep reading with all the new offerings in the app.

Although this app is great in many ways, there is one thing that I didn't like so much. There are certain books that can be read and others that need to be purchased. The negative thing is that the price for those books is kind of high and not something everyone can afford. For example, to purchase a lifetime subscription costs one hundred thirty dollars, which is too high for some.

There are lots of amazing things about this app and I most definitely recommend it. I rate the app 4 of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 1 to 6. It is available from the app store, for IOS and Android devices so check it out.

I give this game 5 out of 5 stars and recommend this game for ages 2 to 6. You can download "Sayin' It Sam" from the App Store. Reviewed by Raquel Y., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic, age 14

Sayin' It Sam: Colors is an educational app for young children and those with speech disabilities. This app is a good idea that could have been utilized better.

The app Is very simple which is a good thing because it's easy to navigate. When you open it, there's a menu. You select choose an item and then you guess the color of the item. The next screen has three items, each a different color. You say one of the colors out loud and it continues to another set of colors. When you get it right, Sam congratulates you.

I'm not sure if this is the app's fault, but it didn't understand anything I said. It might be because of my accent (I'm Irish), but I couldn't get past the first set of colors. The animation is good for such a simple app and Sam's movement is smooth and his mouth mostly matches the audio. The colors are a bit confusing, because brown looks like red and purple looks like pink.

I give this app 3.5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to ages 3 through 6.

Sayin' It Sam: Colors, is an app where you name the colors of shapes, balloons and other objects. When you click on a game to play, Sam says "Let's play!" After the objects appear he says, "Say a color." Then, you say a color and, if you said the name of the correct color, it does a special animation (different for each level) and the shape disappears. Sometimes it takes 4, 5 or even more tries to get the shape to vanish. This game is designed to give young kids who are still learning to talk and kids with language impairments a chance to practice speaking. The animation is quite good. For example, the character Sam, instead of being a random monster or talking animal is a realistic animated human. I like that.

I rate this app 3 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 3 to 6, because it teaches speech and yet it doesn't seem to recognize older voices. I think it's a great idea, but I wish it recognized what I said more easily. I have an Irish accent so that might have been the problem. Some kids might get frustrated having to repeat themselves so many times. The app also has a website (http://www.sayinitsam.com/) which shows live videos of the app being played, a link to their blog and more.

Amazing facts about wildlife are entertainingly communicated through musical skits performed by the animals themselves. Catchy singable tunes make it easy for kids to learn about lots of different animals. http://junglejimmusic.com/
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Very cute animated short, geared for a preschool audience. Content is very suitable and straightforward. This is a pilot episode and, as such, offers a great example of what the finished series will show.

The background music is quite charming, sung by a choir of kids. The show features an animated character and his friends as they explore life action things. The voice over talent is quite good with voices that representing the characters in engaging ways. The storyline teaches kids facts about animals that reside in the jungle accompanied with fun music. This makes learning fun.

The graphics and visuals are clear, colorful and charming without going over the top. The pace of the production is quite appropriate for its target audience. Not too fast or too slow. The words are repetitive but that is suitable for preschoolers. The storyline is presented as a bit of an adventure which makes it fun and engaging.

This is a very watchable piece and I highly recommend it to parents and educators working with toddlers. It allows them to explore wildlife in a fun and informative way.

KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - This show is designed for a preschool audience and it's quite suitable for them. The episodes are colorful and the characters look adorable. The songs are a pretty simple but work for its audience. The content is information but not very detailed. Again, remember that it's geared for a preschool audience so, the content is pretty basic and repetitive.

The voice acting is really great! I enjoyed listening to the different characters and give credit to the voice actors for their outstanding work. I found the animation a bit choppy and most of the backgrounds are pretty plain without much detail. There are occasional gaps between lines in a song or in between dialogue lines, but this is a pilot so, I'm sure that will smooth out in the final show.

The message that the film's creators are focused on is that learning can be fun! You should learn more about the things around you, specifically wild life and what all the different types are like. These episodes are short and cute. I give them 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it to ages 3 to 6. It is available on YouTube now so, check it out. Reviewed by Jolleen M., KIDS FIRST! Description - Werner Herzog and volcanologist Clive Oppenheimer travel the globe and visit volcanoes in Indonesia, Ethiopia and even North Korea in an attempt to understand man's relationship with one of nature's most violent wonders.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - see youth review
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Volcanoes are all over the world and we know so many scientific facts about them. They are majestic and very dangerous, but there is also culture, religion and much more that always surrounds these amazing creations of nature. Into the Inferno by Werner Herzog is a beautiful documentary that tells you all about volcanoes and takes you on a behind the scenes tour.

This documentary is quite educational and the creators of the film share their gigantic adventure around the world which is exciting and quite dangerous. There may be a couple of jokes here and there, but this film is not a comedy. Its main purpose is to show the beauty, danger and culture of volcanoes in an entertaining fashion.

This film follows Werner Herzog (Director) and Clive Oppenheimer (Volcanologist) as they explore the most unique volcanoes on Earth. From the coldest places in Antarctica to the hottest places in Ethiopia, to even the most mysterious places deep in the jungle or on remote islands. They not only talk to local scientists and experts about the area and the volcano, but they talk to the local villagers to hear about the culture and religion in each areas.

Simply put, this documentary is beautiful. There is no better word to describe it. The camera work is spectacular and borderline dangerous. Many of the volcanoes they visit are open and have visible magma lakes inside them. This makes getting the footage very challenging, but the crew manages to pull it off. On top of that, most documentaries only explore the science of volcanoes, but this one talks about so many other aspects of volcanoes. For example, in Ethiopia, they talk about archaeology and how volcanoes help preserve fossils. This allows the viewer to learn about not only the volcanoes but the many myths and rituals surrounding them. One small issue is that, if you are not passionate about learning about science or about culture, some scenes may be slightly boring or feel stretched. Otherwise, the director Werner Herzog has produced a perfect documentary that is truly educational and entertaining.

My favorite scene is when they go to Antarctica to see a massive volcano there. Not only does it just show how hard the crew works to get the footage, it also is mind-blowing to see freezing snow temperatures with a giant hot volcano right in the middle of it. In many scenes in Antarctica, they are right on the ridge of the volcano, looking down at the massive magma lake within the volcano surrounded by magnificent ice. This is absolutely spectacular and scary to watch at the same time.

There are many parts of the film that are either socially or politically mature in terms of cultures, which makes it unsuitable for very young children. I recommend this for ages 12 to 18. I give it 4 out of 5 stars because it achieves perfect cinematography, is a unique concept and very educational, but it does feel a bit stretched out.

9/11 INSIDE THE PENTAGON

Series: DOCUMENTARY, AGES 12 - 18
Description - Produced by Lone Wolf Media, "9/11 INSIDE THE PENTAGON" revisits the events of 9/11 from the perspective of those who were in Washington, DC, working at or near the Pentagon. Using exclusive first-person interviews with Pentagon personnel, first responders, aviation experts and journalists, as well as rarely seen Department of Defense footage taken from inside the Pentagon after the attack, the special tells the story of heroism and perseverance in the face of unimaginable, life-threatening obstacles.

Unlike those in New York City who were completely taken by surprise, those in Washington, DC, followed the news coming out of New York and realized than unaccounted-for flights still in the air would likely target significant, symbolic and strategic sites in the nation's capital - including the Pentagon. In the chaos that followed after Flight 77 struck the Pentagon, a group of workers inside crawled through black smoke and pools of jet fuel looking for an exit, only to find themselves trapped behind a newly installed blast-proof window that was impossible to break open; emotional clashes over jurisdiction would break out between Pentagon personnel and first responders trying to find survivors in the wreckage; smoke threatened to incapacitate the National Military Command Center; and an unaccounted-for plane would pose the threat of yet another strike.

Among those interviewed in the film are those who experience the attack first-hand: Steve Carter, assistant building operations manager at the Pentagon; first responders Mike Regan, Alan Wallace and Ed Hannon; Pentagon personnel Captain William J. Toti (U.S. Navy, retired) and Colonel Marilyn Wills (US Army, retired); air traffic controller Colin Scoggins; structural engineer Leo Titus; and Washington Post reporter Steve Vogel.

They come from broken homes and low-income, high-risk communities in Chicago where barely 50% of young black men graduate from high school and of those that do graduate less than half go on to college and even fewer will graduate within 4 to 6 years. The film explores the factors in their lives (education, parents and grandparents, teachers, role models, personal drive and community support) that made all the difference in helping them be the first in their families to most likely escape poverty and secure a place in the middle class.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - see youth comments
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - This is a must-see documentary which begins airing on PBS September 12, 2016. I know documentary - boring right? Wrong. The film is real, raw and an insight into the lives of real people. Best of all it, is about two super heroes named Robert and Krishaun. These two young men are actual people who we all can look up to and inspire to be like them. They cannot fly or shoot lasers out of their eyes. They have determination, courage, commitment and guts. We need role models to look up to and, through this film, we see the good, bad and how life-changing events are made possible if you have just a little help.

Every day on the news we hear bad things. People complain and talk about how sad it all is. Rarely do people think about ways to change it. Wes Moore and Joy Thomas Moore stepped up and, not only thought of a better way, but acted upon it. Emmy-winning filmmaker Tod Lending spent years filming two young men. That is what I call dedication. We watch how their lives go forward in time and live each moment with them. I was frighten, crying, laughing, hoping and cheering for them.

Gang violence is nothing new. We see it on the news, movies, theater and television shows. Painted signs all over remind us that it is real. They all have sad stories and reasons for their actions.

What if you took some of the reasons away? What if someone came to you and said, "I can change your life for the better and will hold your hand and guide you." Would you grab the hand and walk with them? Many of the gang members said "no" once they found out cameras would be watching them 24/7 for many years. Two of them took a leap of faith. This film is a story about this incredible adventure, against all odds, of two young men who said "yes, I want a better life. I want out of the gangs."

This film is very emotional. I was afraid that they would not make it. It is real life, real problems and real people. When things are hard, it is always easy to give up. There are many times when you worry that they will. The most shocking thing about this film is meeting the real live Robert Henderson III and Krishaun Curtis Branch - gang bangers. I was nervous. They are nothing like you see on television or in the movies. The two of them are sweet, kind, smart and likeable. Krishaun even has a new baby. Their major flaw is not liking the Denver Broncos, but I let them slide.

My favorite person in this documentary, besides our super hero, is Robert's grandmother. She has an incredible story of her own. She is a super hero who has lived a difficult life, but never stopped wanting the best for Robert. She has girl power plus.

With the right mentors, role models, opportunities and a helping hand, great things can happen. It is an inspirational story that I recommend for ages 11 through 18. I also think Robert and Krishaun can be great super heroes to younger kids. This film is not sugar-coated. The violence is implied and talked about. It's not shown, but still it would be too much for younger kids unless this is the life they are living. If you can watch it with your kids and guide them to understand the many messages in this film, it is an eye opening experience. We can all reach out a helping hand. I give this film 5 out of 5 Super Hero Stars.

Description - Narrated by two-time Golden Globe nominee Ewan McGregor, Humpback Whales is an extraordinary journey into the mysterious world of one of nature's most awe-inspiring marine mammals.

Set in the spectacular waters of Alaska, Hawaii and the remote islands of Tonga, this ocean adventure offers audiences an up-close look at how these whales communicate, sing, feed, play and take care of their young. Captured for the first time with IMAX 3D cameras, and found on every ocean on Earth, humpbacks were nearly driven to extinction 50 years ago, but today are making a slow but remarkable recovery. Join a team of researchers as they unlock the secrets of the humpback and find out why humpbacks are the most acrobatic of all whales, why they sing their haunting songs, and why these intelligent, 55-foot, 50-ton animals migrate up to 10,000 miles round-trip every year.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Spellbinding! Humpback Whales is outstanding and incorporates the best that IMAX films have to offer - impossible photography, entertaining music and an instructional narrative that when combined, creates a positive visceral.

The musical score is brilliantly constructed to create an emotional connection between viewers and the whales. The song "Best Day of My Life" paired with pristine video footage of effortless swimming, lunging and breaching invokes a jubilant mood. The haunting, yet mesmerizing songs of the hunchback whales are also highlighted.

Narrated by Ewan McGregor, this documentary is educating, motivating and inspiring. I was enthralled by the details of the bubble net feeding and the up-close photography of the whales enjoying their catch. Rescue attempts of a young whale entrapped in rope from a boat demonstrates the dangers whales face as a result of man's impact on the ocean. The Special Features are almost as value-added as the main feature! "The Search" shows the difficulties in finding the humpback whales, leading the production crew to Tonga, Alaska and Hawaii. We meet the photographers, researchers and the director whose enthusiasm for the accurate and complete portrayal of the whales is contagious. Not only did I feel like I wanted to join their crew, but I also wanted to do more research on the humpbacks! "The Making of Humpback Whales" shows the behind the scenes logistics of filming the whales. For this viewer, the only thing missing was the spray of fresh ocean water! Humpback Whales rates a resounding 5 out of 5 stars! Your family will love it!

KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - The Humpback Whales DVD is amazing, stunningly beautiful and a spectacular educational ocean adventure. For the first time in IMAX, it offers an up-close look into the incredible lives of humpback whales by a team of researchers.

What I particularly like about this show is how much fun information you learn about humpback whales. For instance, did you know that humpback whales can weigh 50 tons, be longer than a 50 foot school bus and have a wing span greater than most Lear jets? Or, that they can dive to the depths of 1,000 feet in the ocean and migrate up to 10,000 miles round-trip every year? And, did you know that male humpback whales sing?

Sadly, we also learn that for hundreds of years and up until the 1970s, humpback whales were killed for their oil. Fortunately, because of the generous support of the Pacific Life Foundation we are learning the importance of the humpback whales and the importance of protecting them.

My favorite thing in this show is learning that the male humpback whales communicate through song. Their songs are known as the "Music of the Deep." It is also what motivated countries across the world to form a ban to stop the killing of humpback whales in 1978. Up until this time, these marine mammals were becoming extinct.

This film is wonderfully narrated by two-time Golden Globe nominee Ewan McGregor and produced by Academy Award nominated filmmakers at MacGillivray Freeman Films. The accompanying music is moving and sets the mood perfectly. I also loved seeing the beautiful scenery as we follow a team of researchers journeying into the waters of Alaska, Hawaii and the distant stunning islands of Tonga.

The message of this film is that humpback whales should be protected, respected and asks what can we do to help them survive. So what can we do to help? Glad you asked. The film tells us that this is possible by encouraging ships to slow down or be re-routed and to keep trash out of the ocean. However, there is also a life moral message about how it is our turn to be the guardians of these magnificent creatures.

The Humpback Whales DVD is a wonderful, educational, ocean adventure for both children and adults. Young viewers will enjoy the beautiful scenery and more mature viewers will appreciate the many amazing things there are to learn about humpback whales. The DVD includes a special feature by the film's director who discusses the making of the movie which you won't want to miss. I recommend this for ages 5 to 18 and give it five out five stars. I hope you watch this DVD so you too can experience the magnificence of humpback whales.

You are sitting on a quiet beach watching the waves roll into shore. Suddenly in the middle of the ocean a giant leaps in the air, does a complete 180 degree twirl and splashes back down into the depths of the ocean. As quickly as the ocean frenzy started, it all stops and goes back to calmness. You have just witnessed a humpback whale.

The narrator for this movie is two-time Golden Globe nominee Ewan McGregor who I love and adore. His pace and soothing voice set a calm tone for this film. Stephen Judson's' writing is easy to understand and memorable.

Of course, this is an awesome movie. It is made by the award-winning documentary filmmakers MacGillivray Freemen Films, the same people (Shaun and Greg Mac Gillivray) who made Everest and National Parks Adventure which are beautifully executed. I love the amazing places they take us because they always make you want to get more involved in the world around you and spend more time outdoors.

You may not have one as a pet because the mothers carry them around for one year and when they are born, they are 14 feet long. When full grown, they are 55 feet long and, at 50 tons, they will not fit into your swimming pool. If you have trouble walking a dog, well the 10,000 mile migration they take every year might be a bit much for you. This film takes us all the way from the tropics to Alaska and Antarctica. We get to see the world through the eyes of humpback whales and marine biologists. The equivalent of 8,000 hamburgers they eat every day might also be a deal breaker. A gold fish makes a better pet for your home.

Humpback Whales is a beautiful film with stunning photography and educational facts about these majestic creatures that I found fascinating. The birds-eye-views are dynamic, the views are something I have never seen before. You watch the humpbacks as they glide through the water. Jumping in the water and playing with them might be an option your brain can consider but it's not going to happen but, I enjoyed watching the beautiful tropical places that this movie takes us to.

The best scene in this film when a group of whales form a group bubble net. One whale blows bubbles in a spiral motion surrounding the creel then, several whales swim deep into the bottom of the ocean and sing haunting noises while swimming upward. These intelligent creatures of the ocean have learned an easy way to herd fish. They capture them in the bubble net and the whales have a wonderful meal for their whole group.

Listening to all their different songs and how they change them reinforces our grasp of their communication skills and genius. Only the males sing. The movie also has other music with a tropical vibe by Steve Woods and Calum Graham which puts you in the mood to hang out in the ocean with the humpbacks.

Tonga, which is east of Australia, is where whaling was once a prevalent way to make money. They have since stopped and found that tourism brings in more money and saves the whales. In the 1970s, there were only 50 breeding female humpbacks left. Today, the number has grown to the 2,000s. This once-almost-extinct mammal is still only 40% of the population it once was. We are making great progress.

There are three countries where whaling is still allowed today - Japan, Norway and Iceland. Additionally, boating accidents and pollution such as trash, fishing nets and other items lead to their demise.

The earth is 71% waters and oceans. We should all look after the ocean creatures and our planet. This movie reinforces and reminds us that the humpback whales exist and need our help to survive. Along with kidsfirst.org you should add OneWorldOneOcean.com to your must see viewing list.

I recommend this film to kids ages 7 thru 18 who will find it entertaining, educational and beautiful. All 40 minutes will hold your full attention. Adult will love the epic underwater and aerial photography. I give this film 5 out of 5 Humpback Whale Star fish.

This movie is alive and interesting with the truth about humpback whales. This movie is especially interesting because how it's told in 40 minutes and tells you everything you need to know about these magnificent creatures. It allows you to look up or ask some friends about humpback whales. Throughout this story, you learn how they move around, all about their calves, the dangers they face and especially, how humans work against and with them at the same time. It talks about how people are the main enemy of the whales because of ocean trash. But it also tells us how we can help them and what you can do. It brings hope and information to everyone who watches this film.

The DVD has an extra scenes feature and boy is it interesting. It talks about how the movie was made, where they went and a lot of other interesting things. I love the way everyone said they had a good time making the film and that they are so happy. It's also very similar to the actual movie, but they talk to the camera and tell you about themselves.

Ewen McGregor, the narrator, is quite enthusiastic throughout this film. He tells us interesting things about the whales and how they do all these incredible things. You may not think it, but there is amazing animation in this film. They show how the whales eat, and sometimes show the whales moving. It's really detailed and for a moment made me think it was really the live whales.

My favorite part of this film is when they talk about the migratory paths of the whales. I especially liked learning whales' fingerprints. This film moral is quite a sad one I would say about not doing things that kill the whales. For example, drive slower and don't throw trash into the ocean.

I rate this movie 3 out of 5 stars because I personally am not a whale lover. It would be rated much higher by a long shot if I was. I recommend this for ages 5 to 18 and adults may enjoy it too. I think that younger kids may be scared by the death scenes which we unfortunately have to endure. You can find this movie on Blu Ray/DVD.

KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - There are many documentaries about the history of Hollywood, but none cover an important topic like this one this. CinemAbility shows the real history of handicapped actors in Hollywood and how many things need to be changed in the way they are treated.

This is an educational documentary that will leave you inspired and interested. It also has some humor from actors who are interviewed and many older classic films. The film starts in the late 19th century showing the first handicapped people in films. It goes all the way up to recent films. Many actors talk about their opinions on the matter and what it is like being handicapped. The documentary shows you some films that heavily mock the handicapped as well as films that represent handicapped people very well.

I love this film because it doesn't just look at Hollywood as discriminating against handicapped people. Instead, it looks at movies and movements that have really pushed for equality and it also features handicapped actors who tell the viewer how Hollywood can make improvements. Its 98 minute length fits very well and keeps the viewer's attention the whole time. The most inspirational point in this film is that it is directed by Jenni Gold, who is handicapped herself. She excels at showing that, no matter what people look like on the outside, they are first and foremost people on the inside with their own dreams and aspirations.

My favorite scene is when they talk about Ray Charles, a powerful musician who has been blind all his life. Ray, despite his disability, led a very productive life and became a very powerful and successful man. He proved that he is in charge of his life which is unique and interesting. Jamie Foxx also talks about what it was like to play Ray Charles and to be blind for twelve hours a day. It was inspirational and interesting to listen to him speak.

CinemAbility does have some mature topics, so I recommend it for ages 10 to 18 and give it 5 out of 5 stars for fantastic directing, entertaining elements, interesting and educational material and a unique concept. I have to mention that it took close to 10 years to complete this film and was mainly possible due to a partnership between the Geena Davis Institute on Gender Media and Gold Pictures, a company founded by Jenni Gold. This film is playing in select theaters now.

KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Lily's Driftwood Bay is an enjoyable and creative DVD that kids will love to watch. It takes place on a beach where Lily lives with her father. Lily dumps out a bag of shells and rocks in the intro and arranges them to make her own little friends, who then come alive to interact with her in her own imaginary "Driftwood Bay" island. My favorite thing about this show is the animation. It's unique and it took a little bit to get used to, but I love its creativity. The rock and shell characters incorporate the actual textures of the objects they are made of in their designs. It makes the show very interesting visually. Lily has a pretty strong accent and, a few times, she was a little difficult for my kids to understand, but the accent also made the kids listen more intently. The characters are fun and they learn about themes such as teamwork and friendship through their adventures. This is a cute show with good messages and interesting animation. I really enjoyed it and recommend it for kids ages 3 to 9.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Lily's Driftwood Bay isbE a cute and adorable show that all children will love! The animated characters are so cute because they look like a child colored them. Lily's character is very dainty and her personality is as bright as the sun. She seems so outgoing and loves an adventure. The opening captures your attention immediately where you see Lily making things out of objects she finds at the beach.

This season contains ten episodes and runs approximately 75 minutes long. Lily's Driftwood Bay is a Northern Irish children's television series that premiered on Nick Jr. in the UK and Ireland in 2014. Creator Colin Williams really has made something special that I truly believe children will love as they follow Lily on her fun adventures with her friends Gull, Salty, Hatsie and more. Every day the sea washes up a new treasure which sparks Lily's imagination about what might be happening on Driftwood Bay. The voice talent also excels. Orlagh O'Keefe is the voice of Lily. Peter Mullan voices Salty the dog. Paul Currie is the voice of Gull. Tameka Empson voices Hatsie the Hen. Many of these voice over actors have been in major movies or TV shows. Peter Mullan appeared in Hercules, The Jungle Book, Harry Potter and War Horse. Paul Currie is best known for Big City Park and Big and Small.

The show is very interactive and well suited for its audience. My favorite scenes in the show are when Lily comes back with new things. It's not a show I would watch and I'm a teenager and it's more suited for kids ages 4 to 7. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars and think that girls will like it more than boys since it is a bit girly. Description - The Secret Lab Kids are ready to demo their new science song for web entrepreneur Mook Zookerboom when he learns that a satellite is coming down out of orbit, panics and heads for the airport. So the team must gather some data on gravity to convince him to return. Then, when Von Bolt accidentally destroys the museum's new moon rock, the Secret Lab Kids must find a way to replace it. Enjoy these adventures and more with the Secret Lab Kids
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - This starts off with a really catchy theme song and has different episodes such as Dancing Machine and Rock It to the Moon. The characters are fun and there are also eight music videos throughout the DVD - one after each episode and the music videos feature words taught in the episodes. This DVD really makes learning science, including chemical reactions and Murphy's Law of Gravity, so much fun. It combines high entertainment value with educational value. It would appeal to a wide variety of ages because it is geared towards the younger kids but the music and topics will also appeal to slightly older kids. I recommend this for ages 4 to 11. My favorite parts are the music videos, because they are catchy and really make this DVD! I give this one 5 out of 5 stars!
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Very entertaining and informative, the animation is filled with vivid color which draws your attention. It truly makes education fun. Its language is easy to understand, giving young viewers the ability to process the information presented. This is an excellent educational series with each episode containing a different message. In the first episode, the robot teaches the viewers to never not do something because they are told not to and to just be happy doing what you love.

The series teaches various things from human anatomy to space science. For instance, they explain gravitational pull and how it differs from in space versus on Earth. I learned that the quantity of atoms doesn't change but gravitational pull makes you weigh less on the moon and the closer the object, the greater the gravitational pull. Jupiter has more mass than Earth which means it has more gravity and, according to the show, it would be less fun there due to the fact that you couldn't float around. The show uses comedy as well to get its point across.

Every episode has an adventure or a problem to solve. Writers Steven Banks, Steven Darancette and Brian Stampnitsky excelled at creating such a cute show that inspires its audience. In fact, it encourages kids to be scientists. Angie, played by Phillipa Alexander who has a lot of experience doing voice-overs for animated films and, it's great to see her here. I like how they have included text when songs come up. It's a small detail that helps you grasp the significance of the words in the songs.

My favorite scene is in the first episode. When learning about space, the characters portray what is being taught by some green aliens and one of them gets attached to the moon due to the fact the gravitational pull has increased as a result of the mass of the moon. This part was just very funny. I recommend this animated film for ages 2 to 6 and give it 4 out of 5 stars. It is available on DVD now so, go check it out.

Thomas Edison's Secret Lab: Rock It to the Moon is a fun, educational series that made me laugh while I was learning. This show teaches new cool stuff about gravity, nanobots and the birth of the remote control.

Angie, Kent, JD and Nicky are back with Thomas Edison and Von Bolt the robot to solve all kinds of problems by going back in time to learn from pioneers in science throughout history.

In the first episode, Dancing Machine, Von Bolt is invited to try out for a dance competition. The gang and Thomas Edison realize that he's not such a good dancer and decide to build a remote-controlled suit so Von Bolt can make it to the show. They use the virtual reality room to travel back to Spain in 1903 and discover how to use radio and remote control from Leonardo Torres y Quevedo, an engineer and mathematician who created one of the first designs for a remote-controlled device.

My favorite episode is Murphy's Law of Gravity. The kids are trying to impress web celebrity Mark Zoomerboom with their song about science. Instead he discovers a satellite is falling out of the sky and he panics. The kids must find a way to keep him calm to get their song to go viral. This episode was laugh-out-loud funny and there's a cool gag with penguins to watch out for.

My favorite character in the series is Thomas Edison (Livingston Taylor) because whenever the kids are under pressure or doubting themselves, he comforts them and gives them good advice. I really hoped there would be an episode in this volume that showed how the kids found the lab but that is a loose end for me in the story line and I hope they work it in on a later volume.

Some of the other episodes I liked are Rock It to the Moon because they talk about gravity. Another episode I enjoyed is Nanobots Byte because I didn't know what nanobots were. They are really, really tiny robots - and the episode helped me understand how they work.

I like the music videos in this volume even more than the first DVD, Secret Lab Meeting. Some of them are really catchy and some of them are just kind of weird. I recommend Thomas Edison Secret Lab: Rock It to the Moon to ages 5 to 12. Kids will fall in love with this show pretty easily and I think there are some pretty advanced subjects that older kids might want to learn about.

I give Rock It to the Moon 3 out of 5 stars. I recommend you science fans watch this show that presents high-level science with high amounts of fun. Thomas Edison's Secret Lab: Rock It to the Moon is in stores April 26th so, go check it out.

Description - On Planet Bamalias, the Little Prince will go through a terrible experience - he will lose his memory. He can't even remember where and why he is there! Planet Bamalias is at the center of five other planets and all these planets depend on it for their survival. Fox is going to try everything to help him recover his lost memory. Fox tells the Little Prince their story: why they are here, planet-hopping chasing the snake and how it all started. Slowly the Little Prince remembers but will he remember everything in time to save the Bamalias constellation? Find out in The Planet of Bamalias!
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - The Little Prince: The Planet of Bamalias is not your average fairytale. With many twists and turns, The Little Prince must undertake a difficult journey to gain his memories back and stop the vicious Snake from fulfilling his evil plans to destroy planets. It is the fight between what's right and what is worth fighting for. This is a fight worth watching.

This film is everything but predictable. Just when everything starts to be okay, the evil Snake appears and causes chaos. The most memorable moment is when The Little Prince has a flashback about saving his best friend, Fox. Fox needed the Little Prince to help him get out of a volcano that the Snake threw him in. As they try to get out, the Little Prince finally realizes that he possesses power within himself to conquer all things. It was very sad because he had to decide what was more important friendship or love.

Usually my favorite characters are the heroes but here, Snake is my favorite. Although he is bad, there is just something enticing about the way he moves. I love how he disappears and reappears in a matter of seconds. The editor builds suspense by having dark music play just before he appears. The best characteristic of Snake is his ability to change his form and feed off of people's fears.

This film stands out from others because the director doesn't set a limit to his creativity and imagination. The plot is well developed and the setting takes place in a different galaxy where things are quite different. That is one of the reasons why I recommend this film to ages 4 to 10 because it is an escape from reality but it also discusses important lessons. One of the most important messages is that you should fight for what you believe in. Kids would really identify with the Little Prince because he is little kid trying to learn from his own mistakes and to do the right thing. Parents can really appreciate that this film is educational and encourages the viewers to never give up.

I give this film 5 out of 5 stars. The Little Prince: The Planet of Bamalias is now available through DVD so, go check it out.

KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - The Little Prince: The Planet of Bamalias is a whimsical, colorful show with great animation, lovable characters and an excellent villain. At the end of the volume, I still wanted to see more of the adventures of the Little Prince and his buddy Fox.

Based on the characters created by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, this film follows the Little Prince as he finds the villain, the Snake, casting his shadow over a planet. On this planet, he meets Kimi and Tiksi who every year guide the Bamalias, a sort of sky whale, to the Great Eye. The energy of the Bamalias' song travels through the Great Eye to power the whole constellation of planets that depend on them. Then something terrible happens. The Little Prince and Kimi forget everything, who they are and what their mission is. The Prince's friend and comrade, Fox must help him retrieve his memory so he can stop Snake and get Kimi to remember how to lead the Bamalias to the Great Eye or the constellation is doomed.

My favorite character is Fox because he never gives up on his friend and is very funny. My favorite part is a flashback in which the Little Prince must get Fox out of a hole. The reason he is stuck in a hole is because Snake tricks him into thinking he is going to the planet of chickens. The scene really shows the inseparable camaraderie between the Prince and Fox. The lesson I take from this installment of the Little Prince's adventures is always be loyal to people you love.

The villain in this show, the Snake, is very good at being very bad. He gives people bad ideas and tricks them into carrying out his evil plots. My one problem with this volume is that there are some things left hanging at the end, but I don't want to ruin it for you.

The animation in this show is very good, particularly the character design. The animation is so detailed that even the scales on the Snake look realistic.

I recommend this show for ages 8 to 11 because some younger kids might find the snake scary. If you are a fan of the French book, The Little Prince, you will certainly enjoy this show. I give this DVD 3 out of 5 stars.

This DVD contains eight episodes each focusing on a different creature including water bears, immortal jellyfish, sea sponge, duck-billed platypus, mimic octopus, jawfish, remipedes and oarfish. The Octonauts are an interesting group of little explorers who find unique sea animals that can do amazing things. I really like how the action is integrated with education in this series. Kids can learn a lot about animals, but also about the importance of knowledge and how to work together to solve problems. The DVD includes a section with the "creature reports" which are cute chants teaching the basics of the animals. I believe kids ages 4 to 10 would really like this series.

KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - While watching this show I noticed the how original it is. It's the only TV I have ever seen about bears that helps creatures and kids seem to really enjoy that. I can say, that even as a teenager this captured my attention. So younger kids would definitely be interested in this show and that's good because then they'll pay attention to all the important messages that it teaches.

Octonauts is a funny and creative show about a group of silly bears that go on adventures and help other creatures underwater. This show teaches important kids important qualities to develop such as generosity, courage and team work. It also teaches how helping is always a great thing to do. Besides teaching important character traits and messages it also teaches educational things too. During the show I noticed how they teach things to each other and take a deeper look at things to make sure the viewer understands. This is good because a kid can have fun learning new and important things without even knowing that they are actually learning.

The scenery in this show is also great. The bright colors and unfamiliar environment of the sea floor really keeps kids in tune with what they are watching. Also, the scenery really adds to the storyline of each episode and adds to the personality of each character. This makes the show more interesting to watch and often lead me to asking myself questions such as "what type of animal was on the screen" or "where were they were in the ocean?" These questions were answered soon afterwards and with lots of thought put into the answer.

I recommend this show for ages 2 to 7 because it is very educational and toddlers who watch it will be very intrigued by the colors, characters and scenery. This show also gets 4 out of 5 stars from me because, though it is educational and fun for little kids, sometimes it got a little too corny for me. I suggest that you show a younger sibling this show as soon as possible because little kids love it.

KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - The younger children saw the DVD sleeve and were excited to watch this video. The concept of the alphabet monsters is a very fun one. She also liked telling the answers about finding the missing letters M and helping solve the mystery of the Alphabet Garden. She also enjoyed Alice, Brian and Cherry Berry. She remembered the words marbles, medal and map and said she knew the word map from Dora. I helped her sound out map and now she can spell it! She's very proud of that. In the clip, Noodlicious, she said she liked finding the letters N too. She liked Holey Moley more and we ended up watching it three times in two days.

KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Even though I am much older than the target audience for this show, I must say that the this DVD excels at introducing letters of the alphabet while making it fun and interesting. Throughout the different episodes and stories, there is letter recognition, spelling and the opportunity to write out each letter. These are just a few of the learning mechanisms contained in this volume.

This particular volume focuses on the letters I, J, K and L. Of course, it is very informative with these letters of the alphabet and, at the same time entertains little ones in this aspect of early language learning. The story revolves around the letters missing. They are nowhere to be found. The family and friends of the people that live in Capital Castle must solve riddles and clues to find these missing letters, one episode at a time.

It has many different bright colors which are visually fun and catch the attention of young viewers. The sing along songs are enjoyable and, at the beginning of every episode, I found myself singing the opening song. I enjoyed the songs and like how they transition from one letter to the next as well. My favorite character is the Princess because she is very optimistic and curious - things I relate to. She just wants to know stuff. My favorite episode is "L" mostly because I enjoyed the word choices. Each episode leaves you with wanting more and more. One facet of this show that I don't particularly like is the length. Each episode is about 30 minutes which, in my opinion, is a bit too long to focus on one letter and just three words associated with it.

Parents, this is a great tool to help you introduce your preschooler to words and phonics. You can even watch it with them and show how excited you are when they are learning. Learning is exciting and fun and this is a great age to do so.

I recommend this DVD for ages 2 to 5 and give it 3 out of 5 stars due to its length and limited word choice. It is a great learning DVD for preschoolers and I'm sure the little ones will truly have fun and enjoy it.

Description - Smart-EZE apps are designed for review of Math, English Grammar, and Reading Comprehension materials learned during the previous school year, for grades 1-5. The first Smart-EZE lesson is free for a single subject and grade level of your choice. Available for iOS, Android and Kindle tablets. http://fatredcouch.com/products/smart-eze-math-english-and-reading-comprehension-summer-review/
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - This is an intuitive app that is designed to help students, ages 5-12 review and expand upon concepts they learn in school. In my experience with the app, I noticed that it has a well designed user interface that is easy to navigate and is pleasant to look at. There are three subject areas that the app covers: Math, English and Reading. These subjects are covered in sections that each contain questions that will challenge the user to think deeper, to solve problems and to interpret reading. The user can also select the grade level content they wish to work with, making it easy to tailor the experience to individual needs. I believe children will enjoy learning on this app because of its fun style and the fact that it offers rewards for users based on how hard they work. Overall, I believe it is a great example of meeting KIDS FIRST! criteria, but there are a few negatives that I should address. First, I experienced some performance issues, my app was laggy and slow. Secondly, there is not very much sound in the app, which is strange for an app with such a good visual style. Despite those drawbacks, this is a very solid app, which is why I give it 4 stars out of 5.

This app has great exercises in the three subject areas I mentioned above, the obvious benefit is that it is a useful tool for elementary and middle school aged kids to review and expand upon what they learn in class. There are lots of tools that track the user's progress and there is a handy level selector that the user uses to pick up where they left off. Users are also allowed to go back and fix mistakes before moving on.

This app has graphics and colors that help to refine the experience and increase its appeal. Reading, English and math skills are taught in a series of questions. Reading skills require investigation and understanding of passages that are given, the user then has to answer questions about the reading. Math is taught using a more standard approach: multiple choice or write-in questions. English questions require users to complete tasks such as correcting mistakes and defining words. The app has an easily navigable user interface with colored buttons and directions; as well as large, easy to read fonts. I do believe a child would enjoy this because of the fun and colorful design of the app, and because there are periodic rewards for the completion of goals. REviewed by Michael O., KIDS FIRST! Juror
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - This learning tool is perfect for school-aged kids and I love that it's not boring like a lot of other educational apps I have tried. The main reason for that is the way it awards you digital medals depending on how well you perform. I love getting medals! It made me want to keep playing so I could get more. I wished they used this app in schools. I would look forward to it every day. Parents who prefer only educational games for their kids should definitely check this app out.

Smart-EZE has three different categories: math, reading and writing. Each section asks you a series of questions. Sometimes you have multiple choice answers to choose from and sometimes you have to write in your own answer. I like the reading sections best because the stories are all very funny. I had a trickier time with math because, even though I was playing at my grade level, there were some math concepts I had never seen before and didn't understand. It might be a good idea to make sure your kids know that the app covers lots of different materials and concepts and they might not know all of them. It all just depends what they have covered in school.

Another part that I like is that you are able to go back and repeat questions that you missed until you get them right. Also, Smart-EZE has a parent mode that allows parents to check on their kid's progress and see how many questions they got right or wrong. The only part that bothered me is that the app seemed a little laggy when I played. This was particularly noticeable when using the note pad and watching animation.

I recommend this for kids ages 8 to 12. I rate this app 4 out of 5 stars because it is lots of fun, but the lag is a little frustrating.

Watching this DVD with your child, whether hearing impaired or not, is a fun and brilliant way to introduce sign language and provide a glimpse into different modes of communication. KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - This is cute and adorable movie that almost everybody will love. It is perfect for little kids because they will learn a lot. It's also great for older kids because it has a modern twist on a fairy tale. I think they will really enjoy it and relate to it as well. It is really funny how they play on words when they are playing with video games and stuff. It is really funny and made me laugh.

Now, the background is awesome. It looks like it is hand drawn and it kind of made me feel as if I jumped into the fairy tale. It made me feel as if I was there, standing as a little pig myself. Standing ... It is just so cute. They have real life props that look like you could pick them up and play with them. And the cute little piggies are so so so adorable. Plus, I learned how to garden, how to use sign language and also, about how this family could have fun.

Now, we get to learn sign language at the end which is very cool. I have always been interested in learning how to do sign language for quite a while and I bet other kids have as well. With this DVD, the hearing impaired can also listen to it and watch it and know what is being said.

My favorite character is probably Funny Piggy. She is a great female character. She shows kids that it's great to work hard and they can have fun doing that as well. She reminds us to always try to do your best no matter what. This is a life action film. I think adults would enjoy it as well as kids. I recommend it for ages 3 to 11 depending on your style. KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - National Parks Adventure is a new, eye-popping IMAX celebration of the most amazing places in the world. I found myself even tearing up at the astounding landscapes in our country.

Narrated by Robert Redford, National Parks Adventure follows climber Conrad Anker, his stepson Max and their friend Rachel as they explore our National Parks. The film also takes you back in time to witness the camping trip that President Theodore Roosevelt took to Yosemite to see how much it needed to be protected.

National Parks Adventure has magical cinematography and an emotional soundtrack that puts a new spin on American classics such as "This Land Is Your Land." The film balances a lot of stories and still makes the 45-minute film not feel rushed. It will keep your eyes glued to the screen because you will be enthralled in the history of how the park system was born and you'll see the amazing adventures people have exploring the national parks today. It is very cool to see the parks I haven't visited and get a sense of what it's like to be there in real, and even bigger than real, life. I also like seeing the parks that I have visited from the filmmakers' point of view.

My favorite part of the movie is when Conrad, Max and Rachel visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. There are shots of them climbing up frozen waterfalls that made me feel like I was right behind them. Another scene I loved was of cute little prairie dogs that IMAX makes look like towering creatures bigger than me.

I really enjoyed the cinematography. Five film crews visited forty parks and took nine months to make this movie. They shot it on 65mm IMAX film. That is a big deal because this will probably be one of the last IMAX films to use large-format celluloid instead of going digital. This movie is also a big deal for the national parks because 2016 marks the centennial of the park system.

National Parks Adventure takes you on an exciting and educational journey. Younger kids may not be able to appreciate the history so the movie is probably best for ages 5 to 15. But all audiences will enjoy this beautiful movie. It is one of the best IMAX movies I have seen.

I give National Parks Adventure 5 out of 5 stars.

While I was watching Math with Matthew: The Pythagorean Project, my 8th grade daughter stopped what she was doing, sat down with me, watched, chatted and enjoyed learning about the Pythagorean Theorem. SERIOUSLY! Dr. Matthew Beyranevand, a K-12 Mathematics and Science Coordinator for the Chelmsford Public Schools, has created a brilliant episode that teaches and reinforces a variety of mathematical concepts for elementary, middle and senior high students. Matthew and his sidekick Rhombus make learning math both fun and memorable. The show is packed with a variety of skits, gags, songs and graphics that are current, informative, and funny for kids as well as adults. I highly recommend that parents and educators incorporate Math with Matthew into their student's math instruction and review. This math show can help even reticent math students find joy and humor in math and learn to enjoy the subject. Five out of five stars for Dr. Beyranevand and his brilliant Math with Matthew series!

I found myself wanting to join them in having fun while learning about math. The music, games, graphics and clever writing make the videos truly enjoyable. You almost forget that you are learning math at the same time. I love how the videos jump from one activity to another, making it really appealing for kids and teens. Music is interspersed between skits and math demonstrations. Very well constructed for the cognitive development of young students.

The characters are funny, engaging and make you feel like you already know them or want to know them. Behaviors and dialogue are appropriate, but current and in line with how students think and talk. The math demonstrations definitely support inquiry, investigation and help the viewer to see how math can be used anywhere and by anyone. The episodes are full of different skits, each with simple costumes, props, settings, etc. The total package is one of a comfortable, fun school district created show, rather than an expensive, glitzy big studio production. But that is part of the charm, because it makes you think anyone, yourself included, can have fun making a show like this one.

Any student struggling with math, or just interested in math, will benefit from watching the Math with Matthew series. I can see students wanting to try some of the math problems that they saw during the episode. In the show everyone is having such a good time doing math, it makes you want to participate! Math for me was a very challenging subject when I was in school. Math with Matthew: Pythagorean Project is a creative presentation of a not so easy concept to learn. It is very important for students to have a good understanding about triangles, right angles, simple problem solving and square roots. Matthew presents these elements in a simple, step by step manner and the contrast between Matthew and Rhombus is very good. Matthew wants Rhombus to agree that the Pythagorean Theory is the most important mathematical discovery and even after Matthew presents all his examples, Rhombus is still not convinced and cleverly leads into the next concept- Pi!

KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - I am a kid and I love Math with Matthew! It is a fun and sometimes silly way to learn how to do different things in math. Math with Matthew uses different techniques to teach you what you are learning about, so it is helpful for kids no matter how they learn: visual, auditory, through repetition or songs. In the episode about how to do the Pythagorean Theorem they sing it, write it out and do activities using the Pythagorean Theorem. Math with Matthew would help lots of kids learn math. I recommend it for ages 5 to 8 depending on what you need to learn. I also rate it 5out of 5 stars because of all the ways they teach you. I am going to ask my teachers to show us Math with Matthew at school. Reviewed by Mia A., KIDS FIRST Film Critic.

KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - This DVD is meant to increase awareness of sexual abuse for young children ages 2 to 6. Kids are taught about the five B's - body parts, boundaries, bravery, bust secrets and be bold and believe. This DVD discusses in a child friendly manner a very sensitive topic.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - This is a very important video and can be very useful for increasing awareness of sexual abuse among very young children. The children themselves enjoyed the cartoon and music. It may be useful to create a girl version and a boy version. At the ages of 2-6, some parents did not want anatomical terms used. In that case, the majority of the video could not be viewed by the children. Those parents did not let their child watch the video starting from 5:19 when the terms "penis" and "vagina" are used. Those children had not heard these terms before. For parents who are comfortable with anatomical terms being used, this works well. Hence our qualitied yes ranking.

Series: STUDENT MUSIC CD, ELEMENTARY
Description - Winner of more than 15 national awards, including Parents' Choice and Teachers' Choice. 17 original songs, each teaching a different social skill. The fun way for kids 2-9 to learn social skills to reject bullying. Kids are engaged as they learn "the kind kid is a COOL kid, not the bully."
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - This CD is a 17 set of character-affirming songs that present children with options to make positive choices in their daily existence of life, school and home with special attention paid t peer pressure. The songs are well produced and performed with a mix of adult and child performers. An array of musical styles from rock to pop to folk infuse the messages of manners, respect and making a stand with an accessible immediacy. The collection is a valuable teaching tool for parents and educators to integrate into their bag of tricks. The structure is sound. Every song has a behavior that ideally should be modeled - manners, standing up for what is right, following rules, kindness and similar. The content is age appropriate and, of course, emphasizes that it is "cool to be kind."
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - This is a very cool music CD which includes 17 songs that demonstrate how to be polite and well mannered, with a catchy beat! I honestly thought it may be a little cheesy but the CD pleasantly surprised me. The first song of the album, "Cool Kind Kid," is simply perfect for teaching younger kids about proper behavior.

All songs in the album not only send positive message but lead kids with an example. Music ranges from rock and roll to slow and soothing, to upbeat and modern. Each song is completely different from the last and concentrates on one specific item. For example, one of my favorites, "When the Telephone Rings" talks about how to pick up and answer telephone correctly.

There are 17 songs in total. Each of the songs is about two to three minutes long. All somewhat tell a story and even though you may not realize, all teach you a lesson as well.

Most of the songs are catchy. However, there are a couple that feel a bit forced and probably would have benefited from a better singer. But those are an exception and I do like the fact that the majority of the songs are sung by kids. Since I'm 12, the songs were a bit childish for me but I could see a class of preschoolers enjoying it and singing along. I also found it very smart to make this for such little kids, so when they grow up, they have good manners and a clear understanding between right and wrong.

My favorite song is "When the Telephone Rings." The song is about being polite during a call, and I like it the most because the voice is very impressive and the lyrics are catchy. It all wraps up nicely as the song explores three different situations with a good sense of humor.

These songs are for little kids, so I think the best age rating is 2 to 6. I don't believe older kids would enjoy it or benefit from the message as much. Younger kids would not understand the purpose of it. I also give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. Reviewed By Gerry Orz, age 12, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic

I can see this CD incorporated into lesson plans for older children where there is a dire need for materials on character. This is a socially interactive, educational album that hits its target audience. The music is top rate. There is a menu and fresh caught lobster is on it (gr). It comes with a booklet. The album is true, first of all to itself, and second to its intended audience. This is a respectful address to the age group for which it is intended. I love a CD where sometimes you need to reach for language. The quality is excellent; the production value draws the listener into a safe place to receive the message. Reviewed by John Wood.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - This is a positive CD with catchy songs and lyrics that kids can relate to. My favorite song was "Place of Character" because it mentions landmarks and is catchy enough to dance to. I recommended this to some other kids but not all my friends because some songs are too slow. Description - Specifically designed for teens ages 12-18, the workout will develop your physical conditioning while you learn effective martial arts techniques. This program takes the mystery out of martial arts training and offers a clear explanation of the exercises needed to become a Kung Fu practitioner. Ben Warner teaches traditional Kung Fu techniques and principles in an easy to follow workout.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Teaches teens how to do Kung Fu and includes warm up exercises and post workout exercises. It is well produced so anyone can follow along. The exercises are easy to follow and show a variety of different types of workouts. The structures is similar to going to a Kung Fu studio to take a lesson. It's not the most exciting thing to watch unless you are interested in the topic. The strategies are well explained. There is nothing inappropriate here. Strength and motivation are the main behaviors that are emphasized by Ben Warner who teaches in an efficient and safe way. The production is well done. The sound is clear, the visuals are good although they all take place in the same location. There is no variety. It may motivate teens to learn Kung Fu and show them that it isn't as difficult as they may have thought.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Kung Fu means "energy and time", this means Kung Fu can be applied in anything where energy and time is necessary. Thus, Kung Fu is important and valuable in every aspect. Kung fu also helps build strength, health and mental focus. Work is needed to gain strength to stay healthy. This DVD how-to video helps to explain how Kung Fu is useful for everything.

Learning something new can be fun and exciting. "Kung Fu for Teens" is a how-to video that shows teens step by step how to master simple techniques of Kung Fu. The Instructor is Ben Warner who teaches Kung fu with a friendly personality. There are also teens doing the movements which is very encouraging. The video starts of with an easy warm-up then progresses to a teach viewers the basic stance and punches of Kung Fu.

Warming up is very important because it "warms up your body" so injury does not happen. From stretching to in-place running, all the warm ups help your muscles stay active. Next are the workouts, these are more intense because all the jumping and running stimulate the blood to the heart. These warm-up and workout methods are helpful because it can be used for any occasion to stay active. Then the important part comes, learning the basics of Kung Fu. He demonstrates tons of moves, which all have unique names such as horse riding stance, mountain climber, and golden rooster. Everyone can do these moves from children to adults.

I really enjoyed "Kung Fu for Teen, because it is easy to follow and learn from. I rate the age range of this how-to video from 10 and above because some of the movements are more mature. I rate it 5 stars our of 5 because of its simplicity and application to the real world. Reviewed by KIDS FIRST! Film Critic Patrick N, age 14.

Now granted, Beth Nielsen Chapman has written world class songs and has access to a musical palette of top-flight talent, which is value added for the parent who is looking for a stimulating concept that will pique their child's interest and lead them to learn more. The 10 year olds said it was cool but they didn't dance around like the younger ones. The younger ones said they'd listen to it again, the older ones, not so much. Everyone thought their friends would enjoy learning more about astronomy and liked the rock 'n roll song best. One boy said he liked the facts because they were real and accurate. Description - Receiving an O.U.C.H. alert (Obtrusive Unidentifiable Curriculum Hysteria) from Earth, Professor Pop Rock and I.Q. magically zoom in to transform boring book reports into explosive music videos with 4 lessons: Dial 911, Strangers, Say No & Self-ID. This title for purchase at www.poprockandlearn.com
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - This is a crime prevention and safety video that is meant to be used by parents, educators and after school groups. The age/grade level is 9-13 (4-7 grade). There are four parts that are introduced by a robot with loud rock music, montages of children dancing, singing and moving about. The four themes are 911, stranger danger, saying no to drugs, bullying and self-identity.

The program is 35 minutes. Each segment is acted out with music, photos and messages printed on-screen. At the end of each segment there is a list of ten tips for discussion. The video can be paused after each tip so it can be discussed.

There is a website (www.poprockandlearn.com) where adults can chat, teachers can find lesson plans and there is a part called Club Pop Rock that is supposed to have games and safety tips each month. We did not review the lesson plans. It requires signing in and we did not do that. The children's section has pdf versions of games, coloring pages and quizzes that can be printed out.

The entire program can be purchased as one 35 min. DVD or teachers can order the teacher pack. The website provides details of what is included.

This is a very upbeat program. The music probably appeals more to kids than adults. The safety information is excellent and could easily lead to lots of interesting discussions. We recommend it.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - This is a great educational video for young kids. It shows kids the importance of knowing how to be safe in case of an emergency. The video teaches kids the correct and appropriate way of dialing 911, how to deal with strangers, saying no to bad influences and knowing how to contact your family with self-identity all while having fun.

Professor Pop Rock makes learning fun!

What I like about this film is how it really makes learning fun for kids. This educational film takes great information and turns them into rap songs and dance parties to make learning an enjoyable experience. The narrator makes rhymes about the topics they're discussing so kids don't ever bored. This is a great way to teach kids the importance of safety all while having fun. What I didn't really like is all the flashing on the screen. It may bother your eyes so I suggest watching the movie on large TV screen rather than a computer.

All the dancers do a great job incorporating cool dance moves with the lesson they are teaching. For example when the kids are dancing to a song about calling 911, they do hand motions like they are on the phone. They also do a great job of dancing.

My favorite scene is when all the dancers dance to a song about saying no to drugs and peer pressure and they put their hands in front of themselves saying no. All the songs in the film are very catchy.

I recommend this movie for ages 3-6 because younger kids are the ones who need to learn safety rules. I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars. You can get this movie online. Reviewed by Jailene A. age 13, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic.

Description - Part of the award-winning Ruby's Studio series. Features adorable live-action host, Ruby, who leads viewers on an engaging adventure through fun animated sequences, art projects and original music - all geared toward helping children resolve conflict and show empathy, kindness and loyalty toward their peers.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - This is such a simple and sweet video about friends. The main character is so nice and the kids will love watching her. She is very inviting and her studio is warm and welcoming. This is a wonderful show for preschoolers and young children to learn about what it means to be a friend, have a friend and get along with others. The golden rule is taught early on and the kids in the video talk a lot about their friends. The actual studio is very colorful, warm and engaging. The pace changes often from talking, to singing and dancing, to animation, etc., and it keep your attention as a result. Kids are given a chance to think about their feelings and how to behave with others. Ruby's studio is very colorful and engaging. It resembles a preschool classroom. Ruby breaks into song and dance with the kids occasionally and it breaks up any monotony in the flow. There is also an animated cartoon, "Friendship", after activity time, which explains step-by-step how to make a friend.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - This award winning show is a must have for every child and will definitely help with their childhood. In "Ruby's Studio", Ruby tells you everything there is to know about friendship. She tells you how to make friends, keep friends, how to treat your friends and cover real life situations on how to relate to them. She also tells stories that show you what to do if you and your friend have a disagreement. Most importantly, Ruby covers the golden rule; treat others the way you want to be treated. I like "Ruby's Studio: The Friendship Show" because of the real life scenes, the activities and the songs which teach you valuable lessons. It seems as though the kids on the show are giving real honest answers, not fake at all. I like that it's interactive with the kids on the show and the fun they are having with the different activities. One craft activity I like is the making of a friendship tree. You can place the names of your friends on it with what you think they enjoy or like. I like that this is a show that is very kid friendly. It's fun with bright colors, upbeat songs, and interesting stories. It provides great tips and gives you a recap of everything. Kids 3 to 7 well definitely love this show because it is interactive with its viewers, making you feel like you are included. Kids will also like it if they are seeking help for their relationships with their own friends. I give Ruby's Studio 5 out of 5 stars. It gives great lessons, it's interactive and has real life examples of problems that kids may face with their friends. There is not one thing that I dislike about this show. I believe it is a great program. For parents, this show is educational in every way and you will love it with helping to raise your child. "Ruby's Studio: The Friendship Show" is available now on DVD. Brianna Hope Beaton, age 13, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic.

This is a great movie for kids to learn the Golden Rule. Ruby's Studio has many different shows. This particular one is about Friendship. This movie shows children how to make friends, understand to their friends and how to talk to them. The movie shows real kids feelings and has a lot of colorful displays, arts and crafts to keep children's attention. It also repeats the messages several times so younger children can remember what the messages of the movie are all about. We need to hear how other kids are feeling so we can understand better. We should try to talk to our friends and see why they are feeling the sadness or not want to play. My favorite character is Ruby. She is pretty and speaks slowly and make sure that all the children understand the message. The movie is fun and full of arts and crafts. The lesson in this movie is "The Golden Rule"; you treat others like you want to be treated. I rank this movie 5 out of 5 stars. This movie's age range is 3 -5. Cheyenne Nguyen, age 9, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic.

I like this show because it really explores the elements of friendship and what it means to be a friend. "Ruby's Studio: The Friendship Show" stars a daycare manager named Ruby played by Kelsey Collins who teaches four kids, played by Skylar Cano, Levi James, Armani Pickett, and Maxwell Vu, about friendship and how to be a good friend. Many fun activities and videos help promote friendship. My favorite scene in this episode of "Ruby's Studio" is a video clip with animated cartoon soccer balls, basketballs, and bowling balls who teach kids that they can overcome their differences and become friends. My favorite character is the soccer ball in the video clip. I like the soccer ball because he is not afraid of anything and he stands up for himself. This forty-five minute preschool show is directed by Samantha Kurtzman-Counter, produced by Christine Ecklund, and written by Ruby Vanderzee. I recommend this show for kids ages five through eight because it teaches kids skills that they should know before fourth grade. I give this show three and a half out of five stars because although this show does teach helpful skills, it can be very slow at times. Camille Bajema, age 11, KIDS FIRST! Film Critic.

The material covered is quite comprehensive: geography, food, religion, music, architecture and language - all duly addressed in 25 minutes. I am impressed with the things the film maker chose to photograph and how it enhanced the topic. A good use of the timeframe and explored the subject well. There are so many smiling faces! The varied expressions of people realizing that they are being filmed while others go about their daily activities seemingly unaware. You get the feeling you are walking among the crowd in the city, riding the train and viewing the forward cars climbing the mountain, being on a bus and seeing monkeys in the road, sitting in the square watching people converse and enjoying children playing. Simply filmed, but the choices of what to film illustrates the information and brings you into the lives of these people.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - The whole movie has a nice atmosphere and a lot of pretty things to see. It's entertaining and educational, a good introduction, but made me want to know more. "I like seeing other people and cultures - what they eat and do." "I like seeing the kids in native clothing." "I didn't know Africa was so built up, having only seen movies that show it more primitive." "I learned that they eat squid that are so large and wondered what they tasted like." "The landscapes are beautiful, waterfalls and mountains, sky and city lights."

Description - Ethiopia provides a ground level view of a lightly visited part of the world. Visit the 800-year old Christian churches of Lalibela, some carved into volcanic rock. See the wonderful diversity of the people of Ethiopia as they go about their lives.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - A documentary narrated by a kid, and it is a very educational view of Ethiopia. Shows a positive and realistic view of what it is like to live in Ethiopia, from a child's perspective. Teaches history, culture, geography and the diversity of the people living there. Shows the poverty, but also shows the beauty. Children can learn about other children that live in this far away place. Educational from beginning to end. I like how you see the characters at work and at play, they are working together and look happy. A child can see how their culture is different, but also the similarities, to their own.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - "Shows us how it is to really live in Ethiopia." "It is interesting." They like how the kids in the film look happy and are playing. "I like learning about geography." "I like to learn about different cultures." Even though it was purely educational, they show interest all the way through. "I like the music in the background." "It is cool that it is narrated by a boy." "I like that it is a real documentary and shows how people dress and work." "I didn't know that Ethiopia had grass because TV never shows that part. I like seeing a better view of it." Before the film some of the kids said they thought Ethiopia was just "poor and sad because they don't live like we do in the US." After, they were interested in learning more about other countries. "It wasn't how I had pictured Ethiopia in my mind." Kids are stimulated to discussion after viewing and verbally express learning a lot from the film, from history to geography to how people live in Ethiopia.

KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Educational and positive. It shows how people live in the different cities in West Africa and teaches many facts from what languages are spoken to what foods they eat, to how they work and play. In addition to telling facts, it shows them so a child can visually see and understand. A great teaching tool for young children! The scenes near the river are breath-taking and the production quality is very good. A valuable educational film, not overwhelming and easy to follow.

FLIP THE SCRIPT
Series: INDEPENDENT DOCUMENTARY SHORT, AGES 5-12
Description - Three teams of kids, ages 6-10, learn the ins and outs of creating, directing and producing their own TV show. Follow the kids' journeys as they learn what it takes to put a production together.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - Kids who normally are in front of the camera get the chance to "flip the script" and find out what goes on behind the scenes. A good demonstration for young people who may have thought about working in the world of entertainment as an actor, or other areas of film production. It does a good job of defining the roles behind the camera. Often times young people only look at the glitz and glamour of being the actor in front of the camera. This shows organization, brainstorming, teamwork, respect for each other, hard work and fun. Encourages and inspires kids to work together as a team to create a great show. Kids learn how ideas from everyone can be put together to make a good product. This is a great DVD to show children, especially those who are interested in acting and film making.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - A bunch of kids who were actors were selected to see what it would be like to be behind the camera. Kids were divided into three teams and they had to decide what type of TV show they wanted to make. They decided on the name, what jobs each would do and even held auditions and picked the actors. Once they created their show, a panel of judges picked the winner. The kids like the idea of kids doing everything to produce the TV show. They like the way they work together and commented on how they decided on their roles. "My favorite part is when the teams are coming up with their ideas and talking about zombies." "I liked the auditions, and when one kid was recognized from being on Are You As Smart As a Fifth Grader." They like the music. It was cool how the adults who help the kids do not try to tell them what to do. Kids were motivated to do their own Flip The Script.

Description - In a music-rich, animated environment, children learn strategies for healthy habits, building a strong body and handling stress. Lively Q&A and hit songs engage children in a world of wellness and language arts, learning in a fun radio show format.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - The basic premise is great: teach kids and families about being healthy. The content is respectful and the songs are simple. There is a mock panel of experts that receives telephone calls from children on various topics and then the singing begins explaining the basis of the topic being discussed in that particular episode. It seems a little disjointed at times and the menu is cumbersome and not easy to navigate. The production quality is a bit amateurish, with voices not appearing to come from the panelists mouths and a sort of PowerPoint style presentation for parts. There is good information in here.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - The kids had trouble staying engaged. The subjects covered clearly need to be facilitated by an adult. Younger kids were confused and older ones weren't interested. Some of the songs were fun and they liked the talk show host concept.

Description - In a music-rich, animated environment, children learn strategies for self-esteem, mind-body connection and emotional well-being. Lively Q&A and hit songs engage children in a world of wellness and language arts, learning in a fun radio show format.
KIDS FIRST!® Adult Jurors say - The songs are good, format is easy to follow. Lots of good and important information. Touches on behaviors of stress, would not be suitable under age 5. Visually bland and unengaging. Might work well in a therapeutic setting. I like that they give you the words to sing along with the music.
KIDS FIRST!® Kid Jurors say - Kids learn to talk about their feelings and not be judgmental. This requires adult moderation and questioning to work. It's simple enough for young kids, but deals with issues of older ones (elementary aged.) Kids like seeing the kids on the screen at first, but quickly lose interest. This would hold attention better in a therapeutic setting, but not at home.
